Question Regarding Dom on the Spot

Since she was aware that there was no difference in fare, why did it never occur to her to buy a ticket to Selly Oak instead of University?

"Calendar month" definition - monthly seasons

You are right. I got that wrong. It always self'corrects after a year. It was something that was ignored earlier.

"Calendar month" definition - monthly seasons

Let me go through a year for you and clarify: Buying a ticket on Jan 1, then Feb 1, Mar 1, etc. The twelfth ticket expires 31 Dec after 365 or 366 days Buy a ticket on Dec 31, then Jan 31, Feb 28 or 29, Mar 28 or 29, Apr 28 or 29, etc. The twelfth ticket expires on Dec 27 or 28 after 362...

"Calendar month" definition - monthly seasons

[Start 31/01 end 27/02] Start 28/02 end 30/03 followed by start 31/03 end 29/04; [Start 31/01 end 28/02] Start 29/02 end 30/03 followed by start 31/03 end 29/04; Note that the 'short' month is for the ticket bought at the end of January and does not need to be repeated for the one bought in...

"Calendar month" definition - monthly seasons

My monthly season ticket for travel in the West Midlands runs from the third of the month to the second of the following month inclusive. It does not matter how long each month lasts. It is issued and administered by West Midlands Combined Authority, though.

    Railcards are going Digital

The Senior Railcard is a single-user railcard which does not require a photograph. The comment is correct though ambiguously phrased - "..why some single-user railcards don't require photos" is how I understand the intent.

    Railcards are going Digital

I give out my landline number but not normally my mobile number. I do not want to be distracted by phone calls when I am out of the house.

    Railcards are going Digital

Every once in a while I and two friends take a train trip for a day. I order the tickets in advance (sometimes they are advance tickets also) to save time and book seat reservations. Two of us have railcards and the third does not. In this situation smartcards would generate more issues than...

    Railcards are going Digital

I do that already when I travel alone. The ticket goes straight into a travelcard wallet which holds my railcard.

    Railcards are going Digital

Same here. As long as I have the option of a physical card, then that is what I use. Having an app as a back up could be useful, but it would not be the primary option. I suspect, though, that purchasing a railcard through the app might prove to be a hassle with the same validation problems I...

West Midlands Train Travel Dirt Cheap !!

It is possible that the policy has changed. Two years ago the Chiltern Business Zone was specifically excluded in the Terms & Conditions published by Network West Midlands. I have used the BZ when travelling on a FC ALR but caught the train at Smethwick Galton Bridge and alighted at Marylebone.

West Midlands Train Travel Dirt Cheap !!

My ticket is valid for the lounges at Wolverhampton, Birmingham New Street, Birmingham International, and Coventry. I can travel first class on all operators' trains within the area. It is not valid for Chiltern's Business Zone. Back in the 1980s I seem to recall that I could buy a season...

GA Guard states that splitting tickets to no longer be cost effective?

Unless off-peak tickets are abolished there will still be scope for split ticketing to switch to an off-peak fare as soon as it is valid. Likewise Ranger and Rover tickets.

    Chiltern Business Zone

If I were looking for an argument I would present my ticket on the train and point out that the restriction applies to nTrain tickets and not necessarily nNetwork tickets. The former is not a subset of the latter as I understand it - it includes travel to some stations outside the West Midlands...

    Chiltern Business Zone

I have travelled in the Business Zone twice with a FC ALR, most recently last month. No supplement was charged either time. I have not yet tried the effect of travelling from (say) Smethwick Galton Bridge to Solihull using my West Midlands nNetwork season ticket with the first class upgrade.

    1st class ALR

Yes it does. All that is normally required is a ticket valid for first class travel on one of the TOC's services for that day (any minimum price for the ticket is obviously met). I have been disappointed by some of the lounges on the various FC ALR trips I've made but there has never been any...

    All Line Rover Validity

It is definitely valid. In September last year I made just such a journey - the 08:45 Virgin service from Wolverhampton arriving 10:32 at Euston. No problem at all. This train called at New Street well before 10 o'clock. Since I did not leave the train the restriction did not apply.

    New Routeing Guide Released today

I expect you will want to hang me for this, but the word you want is pedant.

How do I purchase an all line rover in advance ?

I bought an ALR on the 3rd of June with a start date of the 6th from Sandwell & Dudley ticket office. It can be done, and I don't see why Inverness station staff would think differently.
