Govenment Briefing 23rd May - Reversing Beeching Cuts

Really like the idea of Wellington and Cullompton. I had the idea for these a few years ago. Would be good to see these stops included onnthe Paddington-Exeter semi-fast to help justify increasing these to hourly and extend some Cardiff-Taunton to Exeter calling there also. Maybe extend one...

    MML Electrification: progress updates

Would seem better to do Sheffield now and start getting paid back on the investment sooner.

    MML Electrification: progress updates

I don’t know the route at all I’m afraid. But our of my area unfortunately.

    MML Electrification: progress updates

So as I understand it, we will likely see electrification North of Market Harborough to Derby and Nottingham, also between Clay Cross and Sheffield but not between Derby and Clay Cross?

TfW extends Welsh language announcements to 170 stations

That’s true however most of those get at least daily services to those destinations. Oxford doesn’t get any unless there’s engineering works or something which is why I was surprised they had a recording for it! were there previously regular services from Wales to Oxford?

TfW extends Welsh language announcements to 170 stations

Add all the Parkways, Worcestershire Parkway, Worcester, University, Plymouth, Wildmill, any Central, Nantwich and probably many more I’ve not mentioned yet. Surprisingly Oxford gets pronounced in it’s Welsh form “Rhydychen”.

Trivia: Stations with no scheduled services passing through non-stop

Ah right I wasn’t aware of that. What about the crew assuming they are based at Salisbury?

Trivia: Stations with no scheduled services passing through non-stop

I believe the last Exeter to Salisbury runs non-stop after Yeovil, unless this has changed

How would you Rate your Local Station?

Bedwyn Service: ok for eastbound, absolutely useless for westbound! Nothing until about 1825! Cleanliness is good, facilities limited to a shelter and ticket machine. Parking available but too limited, could really do with additional parking spaces. I believe this could be suppressing demand.

    Old Oak Common Station construction

Is every high speed service going to stop here? Otherwise it is going to to cause delays to the following service if it isn’t due to call. Will high speed services need to cross the slow lines to use a platform?

What is the delay exteding electrification to Oxford and Bristol TM?

I don’t understand why Newbury was prioritised over Oxford and Bristol?

    Station Buffet at Westbury ?

Don’t read their magazines because they tell you off

Repositioning Frome to the mainline proper - any merit in it?

If Frome was repositioned to the maib line there would potentially be less need for trains to terminate there. It would get more calls from Exeter semi-fasts which could easily compensate for the loss of a few terminating services. Alternatively terminating services could extend to Castle...

    Crewe to Chester line stations

What about Tiverton Parkway that seems to be a success there’s 2 or 3 car parks there now and I think the main one was extended.

Repositioning Frome to the mainline proper - any merit in it?

You could get the semi-fast and split at Pewsey/Bedwyn which would probably work out cheaper.

Repositioning Frome to the mainline proper - any merit in it?

Could add those two but I believe there are less people there and therefore maybe less potential? I don’t think it would be as slow as the Salisbury service. Ideally London-Exeter semi-fasts would call at Reading, Newbury, Hungerford, Bedwyn (1tp2h), Pewsey, Westbury, Castle Cary, Taunton then...

Repositioning Frome to the mainline proper - any merit in it?

I think the ideal situation would be to leave the current station in situ and serve with the Weymouth services as present. Then build a new Parkway station on the main line in Frome to serve with an hourly semi-fast London-Exeter service to give Frome decent links to London and the West. I would...
