Parents got grief at Tottenham Hale (LUL) - but let off 'this time'

For bonus points, the TfL Conditions of Carriage say that Group Day Tickets aren't valid on Greater Anglia between Walthamstow Central/Tottenham Hale/Seven Sisters and Liverpool Street, even though The Manual says they are(!) Is it any wonder there's confusion about exactly what is and isn't...

Parents got grief at Tottenham Hale (LUL) - but let off 'this time'

There's another relevant bit in the "inter-available" routes part of the London section of The Manual:

    York Station revenue block

Being charitable, I'd suggest yet another case of training issues. Most of the RPIs I know (curiously mainly ex-WAGN or Thameslink) work on two principles: "If you're not sure whether a ticket's valid, ask for a second opinion where possible" and "If you're still not sure, don't mark it, and...

Parents got grief at Tottenham Hale (LUL) - but let off 'this time'

I suspect it's related to the move to zonal pricing for point-to-point tickets in the Travelcard Area in the run up to Oyster PAYG rollout on NR, but I stand for correction.

Parents got grief at Tottenham Hale (LUL) - but let off 'this time'

For "in-boundary" Train-Tube tickets (such as Enfield Lock to Walthamstow Central via Tottenham Hale) the ticket has to be issued for all the zones passed through, but that doesn't apply for "out-boundary" ones (except on Southern IIRC). So Enfield Lock - Walthamstow Central via Tottenham...

Penalty Fare - Unfairly given? Need advice

Whilst it may seem funny to us, I believe there are some lines in Europe that operate on a "paytrain" basis with passengers paying the driver!

Penalty Fare - Unfairly given? Need advice

In this particular instance, there's only one train an hour between Wokingham and Sandhurst, but the connection time at Wokingham is 18 minutes, which should be sufficient to purchase the required ticket as there appear to be multiple TVMs at the station (one per platform plus two in the ticket...

Penalty Fare - Unfairly given? Need advice

Unfortunately, the Revenue Protection staff appear to have correctly issued the Penalty Fares as the timetabled 18 minute connection at Wokingham should provide you with an "opportunity to buy" the ticket you need to Sandhurst there, either from the Ticket Office (supposed to be open until...

Fare evaders - what happens if they run?

The three minute and five minute targets are average queuing times, which are assessed across a one hour period in the peak and another hour off-peak. Obviously, it's possible to be queuing for longer than five minutes if the person in front of you wants a ticket that's particularly time...

Railway staff lying to the BTP

I would hazard a guess that said fares database entry is how SET have tried to implement negative easement 600069: "Customers travelling from Stratford Domestic station to London St Pancras may not travel via Stratford International. This easement applies in both directions."

Railway staff lying to the BTP

For bonus points, the fares from Canterbury - Gravesend are more expensive than those from Canterbury - Tilbury(!)...which c2c tell us are intended to be used via Gravesend and the ferry, but which don't include the ferry fare. Good innit?

Railway staff lying to the BTP

I suspect the converse is also true, however, in that they won't tell you that it is valid on HS1. And a Ticket Office would probably give you their interpretation of what the routeing meant (or check with Southeastern) and stamp it "Restrictions Advised".

Wrongly accused of overwritten carnet by FCC

Weren't the carnet validators essentially the same as Oyster readers, only reading and encoding the magstripe without printing anything?

    Chiltern Boundary Ticket Refund refused

Whilst it's too late for the OP in this instance, an e-mail has gone out to all Chiltern ticket offices to advise/remind them of the existence of tickets to Boundary Zone locations.

    Chiltern Boundary Ticket Refund refused

FasTIS doesn't link to Journey Planner like Fujitsu STAR and Shere SMART do, so will quite happily issue bus links and tickets to & from Boundary Zones from the normal Journey Input Screen without needing any "voodoo". I can appreciate Banbury not knowing that you can get tickets to Boundary...

    Restriction code text. Sensitive information?

Clicking through to the validity details on the Fares Finder in The Manual gives an error message. It could be argued, therefore, that NO time restrictions apply to either Off-Peak or Super Off-Peak Day Travelcards (Code XC) in FGW land, as the relevant restrictions are in sections headed "BVS...

Fare evaders - what happens if they run?

Combine that with having a tap you can aim, such that you can make them look like they've wet themselves as well.

Railway staff lying to the BTP

Whilst they theoretically MAY detain someone under RoRA, there's a strong warning NOT to do so in The Manual:

Railway staff lying to the BTP

I quite agree that it could be interpreted in that way, but the use of "EXCL" rather than "NOT", combined with 13 years in the industry, suggested to me that it should be treated differently. Southeastern are a law unto themselves...But generally speaking, tickets from "London Terminals" are...

Railway staff lying to the BTP

Transport Direct isn't an exclusively NR journey planner though, and if you put in something like Canterbury to Southend and force it to route via the ferry it quotes the fare from Canterbury to Gravesend and Tilbury to Southend separately. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Having...
