Any news about the Chiltern Power-door Mk3s yet?

Just got hold of a copy of the May timetable booklet and there are no additional "Silver" workings marked in there.

Clunk and Loud Noise - EMU's

I always thought the humming was the electricity, as I suspect the location in question is underneath the pan...

313121 now in Network Rail yellow

Is it just me, or does the knob for switching control of the test track signalling from Kings Cross to Hitchin and back (as seen here) appear to be rather over-engineered?

    Train Frontage

The relevant Railway Group Standard is GM/RT2483 (Issue 1) dated June 2004: "Visibility Requirements for Trains". The basic requirement for most vehicles (except snowploughs and shunting locos) is for a minimum area of 1m^2, with a minimum dimension of 60cm, when viewed head on; or 2 * 0.4m^2...

    Auto close doors

I believe all of the Networker derivatives have auto close as an option, but the majority have it disabled as the hustle alarm doesn't sound when it's used! Fairly certain Great Western's 165/1s and 166s had auto close enabled last time I went on them though... Cheers, Barry

Any news about the Chiltern Power-door Mk3s yet?

What would be useful is if the WTTIDs for the ECS moves corresponded to those belonging to the service train, particularly between Marylebone and Wembley! It'd make finding them quickly a lot easier. ;)

Any news about the Chiltern Power-door Mk3s yet?

How do you come up with five ECS moves, when there are only three Silver sets, one of which must form either the 07:44 from Princes Risborough or Banbury? :?: Besides which, AIUI, an ECS move doesn't need a Guard on board, whereas a passenger service would...

Train Display-Annoucement oddities ... (excluding driver input code errors)

Nothing wrong with that, except at the weekend and early morning/late night when the Northern City Line is closed. ;) Don't know if they still do as it's been a while, but at one point the 365s announced Kings Cross as "Blondon Kings Cross", similarly "Bletchworth Garden City", and a bit of...

GA 315 EMUs to be fitted with PIS

And how are they going to run the West Anglia Inner Suburban services (Liverpool Street - Chingford/Enfield Town/Cheshunt/Hertford East) if they send the stock off to Cardiff? :p

Any news about the Chiltern Power-door Mk3s yet?

    Bit late now, but there's a loco-hauled set working 1R58 today, 19:33 ex-Marylebone.

317/7s during and after the 2012 Olympics

Or to ressurect a previous idea for Class 4xx EMU renewal, how about "Electrostar Classic"? Cheers, Barry

Any news about the Chiltern Power-door Mk3s yet?

Unlikely. The normal timetable applies except on the busiest days at Wembley (1st, 6th and 7th August). As a Saturday timetable will be in operation, in a word...no. Cheers, Barry

Any news about the Chiltern Power-door Mk3s yet?

NRT distances are 115.25 miles for Euston - New Street via Northampton, 113.25 via the main line, and 111.25 miles for Marylebone - Moor Street (112 to Snow Hill). Cheers, Barry

MITRAC runs on Windows 3? :)

Having seen the MITRAC startup on a 168/2, those definitely run embedded Linux and an X Server. And the 357/0s started out on Win95...with no DOS mouse driver (for the touchscreen)...so if ScanDisk started, you were stuffed and had to open up a "cupboard" to plug in a keyboard. :D And not...

    Wag 2 67s

Except Chiltern need all of the Mk 3s to cover the existing diagrams, and to cover for the set that's at Wabtec, so the only "spare" DB Mk 3s are the ones in store, which are pretty much still in ex-VT condition I believe. And even after the powr door conversion programme is complete, I...

    Chiltern Loco Hauled

Errr...At least one of the W&S sets has/had Wi-Fi installed IIRC, though it may be the case that it's been switched off/removed since the closure. Cheers, Barry

    315 at Cambridge

Fairly sure said apparent Stansted service actually appeared on the departure boards at Kings Cross...But that was a long time ago, so I may be misremembering, or just plain imagining it.

    315 at Cambridge

The aftermath of Hatfield produced all sorts of unusual workings: GNER utilising 365s between Kings Cross and York 313s reaching Cambridge And I may have been imagining things, but I'm sure I saw a train at Kings Cross advertised as running to Stansted (presumably reversing at Cambridge)...

What's the longest journey where you didn't get to sit down?

Euston to Manchester here, 2 hours 11 minutes. The "privilege" of staff travel.

    Voyagers v Meridians

One other useful feature of the Meridians (at least the MML variant, dunno if the ex-HT 'Pioneers' have them) is the buttons on the floor for opening the vestibule and saloon doors, which were included in the spec primarily for the benefit of stewards so they could open the doors with their...
