    Taunton - Warminster this Sunday

I'm planning to make this journey on Sunday ahead of a meeting in the Warminster area on Monday morning. Due to GWR's strike action decisions, it's not possible to simply change at Westbury, as no long distance trains are running. I've worked out the best option is to get a Cross Country to...

Kent Coast loop... best ticket option

Had the rounder been running still the best ticket option by far would have been Ebbsfleet-Gravesend or vice-versa, but going the long way round, which was valid as long as you never got off en route. It was a RailUK forum meet at least once back in the day.

Delay repay if you used two tickets

Funnily enough I have a pending Delay Repay claim for 1 journey with three tickets: I did Reading-Taunton last Sunday splitting at Newbury and Castle Cary. The service was 15-30 minutes late until CLC then 30 at Taunton, so claimed on 30-59 minutes, but yes I uploaded all 3 tickets into the same...

    GWR Advances not working/available?

I'll see if I can contact SE about the issue first, it definitely wasn't always an issue as I've used Taunton-Crayford advances plenty before, and they're a lot cheaper than an Advance to/from Paddington and Oyster the remainder (to the point that current Paddington Advances are only slightly...

    GWR Advances not working/available?

Not according to the Mixing Deck with the dates below: (Image of GWR Mixing Deck with Taunton-Crayford return journey programmed in for 20th Dec 2023 and 3rd Jan 2024)

    GWR Advances not working/available?

I'm trying to book travel in December and January with GWR at the moment, but for some reason even dates 2 months away are not offering any advance tickets (not even showing a price option greyed out). Is there something going on that I'm not aware of regarding a change in policy, or something...

Is a 2 mile walk (suggested by journey planners) reasonable?

Depends on the person's walking speed. I for example could do it in about 30-35 mins, but I imagine elderly person of course would never contemplate it, although 48 minutes is quicker if you've just missed a bus that's an hourly frequency. The two stations in question get a few direct services...

    Tickets machines and Querty keyboards

And there's a model of GWR ticket machines (it's not the classic ticket machine style) which actually have a cursor on the screen that are really hard to use, to the point that even selecting a popular destination to buy there and then is a challenge, let alone typing on a keyboard of any style.

    Tickets machines and Querty keyboards

I find the biggest problem is touch sensitivity (not sensitive enough), not the actual keyboard layout.

End of the line for return rail tickets

The definition of the UK railway yes ;)

End of the line for return rail tickets

With finances in dire straits it would not be surprising if something was announced that appeared good on the surface but deep down is actually more expensive than the status quo.

Regulated fares in England to rise by up to 5.9 per cent in March 2023

Thanks for the correction. Has the remit of regulated fares changed in the past, as I'm sure it used to be only season tickets that were decided this way?

Regulated fares in England to rise by up to 5.9 per cent in March 2023

My understanding is anything that's not a season ticket.

Are ticket barriers becoming more "rebellious"?

Something I seem to have noticed is that at a number of London Terminals, ticket barriers seem to be rejecting a greater proportion of tickets/passes/etc., which leads to greater crowds at the barriers and general frustration, especially if one's own ticket is affected. I know some stations have...

Maidstone to Bristol Airport return - best options?

As alluded to in the title, I'm flying out from Bristol Airport at 06:10 on the 22nd June next month, and scheduled to return at 15:25 on the 29th June 2022. In terms of getting there by train, I'm planning to get the final train from Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads at 23:32 on the 21st June...

    Split tickets in Trainline app

This seems to now have made the news today, if it's the same thing: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51077807 (also present on other newspaper websites). The BBC also has the Didcot split as one of its examples, which is the one I got familiar with while a Bath student as it happens.

Help with some Southeastern roaming fares

On a weekday later this month I'm considering doing a roam on services with "aspects of interest" I haven't done before, but need some help with the best fare deals to do this. The itinerary so far is as follows: 1) Maidstone to Tonbridge on 09:28 service 2) Tonbridge to Ashford on 10:11...

The "capitulation" of Maidstone's ticket machines

The East and West station machines are this model, but the Barracks is a different model of a smaller size, but as modern in design and capability.

The "capitulation" of Maidstone's ticket machines

With all honesty I didn't check that, however the number of people queuing at the machine suggested either it was closed or a long queue at an open kiosk (a London train was imminent). Had I not had the issue in the past which I linked in my last post I probably would have walked past the East...
