Lockdown effects now killing/harming more people than Covid

Here's another for the bank of lockdown costs to remember if this is ever tried again: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-64415015

Lockdown effects now killing/harming more people than Covid

Yes I saw this, saying covid restrictions was the cause of x deaths/pain is now like saying "Voldemort" in the Wizarding World.

Lockdown effects now killing/harming more people than Covid

Considering alcohol deaths were at a record high during the pandemic, none of the above is a surprise: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-63902852

Lockdown effects now killing/harming more people than Covid

Indeed, politicians and many journalists presumably don't want to consider the prospect because that would mean everyone sees what a massive failure they and what they pursued/enabled was. The best saying that sums up the world of journalism now is this: "If someone says it's raining and another...

Lockdown effects now killing/harming more people than Covid

Can't source a link due to being on phone, but news in that 2022 excess deaths are among the highest for 50 years outside a pandemic. One wonders if effects of covid restrictions have something to do with it.

Covid restrictions abroad: updates & observations

That won't be a coincidence, Governments always look for excuses for not dealing with genuine problems; Putin's actions in Ukraine have been used plentifully in this way, and with news that gas prices have dropped down to the levels they were at in February, this excuse will be wearing thin...

Covid restrictions abroad: updates & observations

Who could have predicted Pagel and the Government inverting their thinking one day?

Covid restrictions abroad: updates & observations

This was my thinking, but it will interesting to see what the internal party reaction to it is, and whether the CRG will revive its cause (its leader Mark Harper sits in Cabinet).

Covid restrictions abroad: updates & observations

Covid restrictions abroad: updates & observations

Depends on what public opinion is and/or the opinion of lobbyists/donors influencing those in power. That said given some of the stuff Sunak said in the main leadership contest, including racing back from the US to avoid further restrictions late 2021, if he concedes to further measures he'll be...

Covid restrictions abroad: updates & observations

Is this another CCP plot to try and destablise the West yet again by forcing them to restrict freedoms, print money and drive inflation?

Covid restrictions abroad: updates & observations

An imminent problem that we and other countries will have is that the baby boomer generation is approaching life expectancy: currently their age range is 58-76, so in the next decade the largest population cohort will be having more health problems and in turn dying just by being at the ages...

What is the Covid-19 Exit Strategy of 'Zero Covid' countries such as Hong Kong?

The WHO now reporting China's hospitals filling up with covid patients: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-64056549 If China did indeed allow covid to spread abroad and encourage lockdowns in the West to try and destabilise them, what's going on now has to be one of the strongest...

What is the Covid-19 Exit Strategy of 'Zero Covid' countries such as Hong Kong?

Would it be great if the regimes of Iran, China and Russia all collapse within a year? The protests are now serious enough for the BBC to have a live feed fronting the landing page about them: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/world-asia-63776816

What is the Covid-19 Exit Strategy of 'Zero Covid' countries such as Hong Kong?

China have made many mistakes on covid, the latest being thinking broadcasting the World Cup while many of their own citizens were locked down. Who knew FIFA might actually be a good revolutionary force for once?

    Lockdown "Baby Bust"

We now have confirmation from research that the birth rate dropped as a result of lockdowns, citing that births were on average 14% lower in January 2021 in Europe: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-63253517

Lockdown effects now killing/harming more people than Covid

This is what happens when reality TV becomes as powerful as it is, we resort to electing reality TV stars, not politicians, who do what they think is most popular without an ability to rationally assess the implications. Combined of course with a lack of critical thinking education.

    Moderna suing Pfizer and BioNTech

Interesting development, also odd I think that if they were going to sue they've waited this long, given the vaccines were first approved 1.5 years ago: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-62691102

Lockdown effects now killing/harming more people than Covid

The problem is many don't seem to realise how powerful the media is in this country, and those that do don't take it seriously. Unless there are mass riots/blockades outside printing presses/news studios, nothing will change anytime soon.

Lockdown effects now killing/harming more people than Covid

What I will never understand is how it was possible to get away with so much without publishing a clear cost-benefit analysis of everything we did, while simply asking for such analyses made one a conspiracy theorist. My opposition to lockdowns and whatnot arose late summer/early autumn 2020...
