    XC Voyager Refurbishment

Part of me wonders if the only reason the turquoise bits feature is to avoid being sued or something.

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

So there are no issues with the 701s then, it's just a pathetic cost-saving exercise all round.

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

They only have 2 units, the rest are with Southeastern now. How long before SWR start asking for some of them back the way things are going?

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

I don't know what the record is for longest thread in terms of duration open, and/or number of posts in it, but if we're talking 2026 before a full rollout is completed this thread must be up there for breaking it.

    Great Northern Fleet Tender

The 379s to GN, via their acquisition by Porterbrook, is in the latest RAIL edition. No mention of any subsequent cascades, although I'd expect such details haven't yet been disclosed to them or anyone publicly.

    XC Voyager Refurbishment

If these Voyagers are going into service with shops still in place while waiting for their turn in the refurb queue, does this mean the shops present will be manned until removed, or will they just sit there as a waste of space, assuming the plan is to get rid of them eventually?

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

Any chance they can all be repurposed as drivers and help expedite the introduction of the 701s? ;)

    Great Northern Fleet Tender

I presume this is accounting for all 39 currently at Great Northern, so if what you say happens, 27 or less move south, which is still a notable number I think (even if this is not the net increase at Southern).

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

Perhaps he should try talking to the person who was Transport Secretary when SWR were awarded the franchise and approved the 701 order. Oh hang on...

    Great Northern Fleet Tender

Yes and comparing unit numbers doesn't account for overall capacity: 700s come in 8 and 12 car lengths, equal to 2 or 3 4-car units.

    Great Northern Fleet Tender

Presumably if they're to remain 8 car throughout a journey, they'd be limited to Ely terminators that run fast to/from KGX-Cambridge, Peterborough services and peak extras that don't involve the stations with shorter than 8 car platforms (unless plans also exist to lengthen them). Does splitting...

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

Assuming they're in warm storage, how do you power units in storage which do not have the power source form available (i.e. third rail or OHLE)? I'm guessing it must be "plugged in" somewhere.

    Great Northern Fleet Tender

If it were those numbers it sounds like Southern won't get a lot, when arguably they're the ones who most need the stock. Unless there is a plan to utilise spare 700s on more Southern diagrams.

    Great Northern Fleet Tender

Apparently 377/5s have been having reliability issues recently, to the point Networkers are ironically on extra Maidstone East line diagrams to cover for this. Does Great Northern have the stabling capacity to allow a significant increase in its fleet size?

Someone's updated Wikipedia to include this news (obviously given the site the contents may change in due course): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_379

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

I've only been dipping in and out of this saga, so can someone please link me to the post that describes what the current cause of delay into regular service for the whole 701 fleet is (assuming it has already been disclosed and to save someone having to repeat it again if it has already been...

Should be in just in time for the next RAIL edition this weekend, now we wait to see how much of the speculated cascade will follow.

    Great Northern Fleet Tender

What's worth remembering is by December an election is very likely to have happened, which if as expected causes a change of government could change how much rolling stock each TOC here has, or else they suffer the bad press of even more overcrowding and disruption. I don't know how quickly they...

    Great Northern Fleet Tender

I see, well sorry to be a pain but when you drop a bombshell expect to get a lot of questions. Unless the tender order was very quietly approved a while ago, I doubt any new order will be ready by 2027 from today, so such an order will have to be resubmitted or modified.
