Why aren't the platforms at UK railway stations renumbered?

Doncaster also has a Platform 0. It caters for terminating trains from Hull and Scunthorpe (when the later run that is, as Scunthorpe stoppers are currently buses!)

    Horbury Bridge Disused Rail Bridge

Have you considered contacting SUSTRANS? Their subsidiary company Railway Paths own a number of former railway lines and structures around the country, the Spen Valley route and Great Northern Trail being two in West Yorkshire.

    Horbury Bridge Disused Rail Bridge

It forms part of the line from the Midland Railway (Rotherham Masborough to Normanton) at near Royston to Saville Town at Dewsbury. The most notable part being Criggleston Viaduct. I believe the section east of Criggleston village is useable. I remember using it nearly 20 years ago. However many...

Any new station additions to open in 2020?

Worcestershire Parkway is possibly going to open in 2020, perhaps Spring, or later. Old Moore’s Almanac may have details

Trivia: Which stations have numbered platforms which are unserved?

Doncaster platform 2 - a south facing bay only used to stable stock. The EMR Lincoln’s could use it, but don’t! No other services can’t use it as it doesn’t connect to the Sheffield lines and is too short for normal LNER trains. Maybe a 5 car Azusa would fit, but no southbound service trains...

    Worcestershire Parkway station progress

Isn’t the only bus service First’s X50 Worcester -Pershore -Evesham? This runs hourly along the main road ( a walk away) from around 07.00 to 18.00. Not very inviting even if you live in the Redhill area of Worcester. Joined up public transport isn’t really something that happens in Worcestershire

I understand these are Teresa May’s Red Lines and won’t apply once we float off into the Atlantic!

TRIVIA - Stations that aren't accessible to people with reduced mobility

Thorne North down side - only accessible via footbridge ( steps, no ramp) or longer flight of steps down to main road. Up side has level access from car park. Barrow crossing went some time ago, especially as Thorne North only has part time booking clerk now. Wheelchair (& others with mobility...

Chinley to Buxton, and vice versa

It should benoted that bus services between Sheffield and Buxton struggle. At one time there was a service via Baslow and Bakewell to Buxton (& even Hanley). That died some time ago. The 65 bus route vis Fox House, Eyam and Tideswellwas commercial and about every two hours, however last year the...

Trivia - Stations named after people

As I understood it, the settlement now known as Nelson (Lancs) was called Marsden. However the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway had a Marsden station (Huddersfield) and chose to call the Lancashire station Nelson. Since the coming of the railway led to a rapid development of a textile mill town...

    Swing Bridges

Google swing bridge over the River Ouse carries frequent passenger trains and freight. It is on the direct line between Doncaster and Hull (Thorne junction to Gillberdike station - not sure if the junction is still called Staddethorpe). According to Wikipedia the speed limit is 60mph for...

Smaller Northern stations lose free parking to fund improvements

Stations in Greater Manchester are supported by the PTE (or TfGM) like similar ones in South and West Yorkshire. In order to encourage drivers to use them (and because there was no easy way to collect parking charges) use was free of charge. So popular are many now that there are no available...

    Raised platform at Starbeck

The driver is supposed to pull up with the leading passenger door next to the Harrington Hump (i.e. Just level with his/her cab window). That is how the raised platform was installed at Harrington's southbound platform.

Wakefield Virgin Trains Station-- Luggage lockers

At Doncaster there are lockers available in the adjacent Frenchgate Centre. From top of steps from the station subway turn left, passing WH Smith's, go up escalator (I.e. Towards shopping centre) and lockers are on your right hand side at top. Literally 3 minutes from the station platforms. With...

Settle & Carlisle - full reopening, implications and results

The 08.49 ex Leeds is regularly noted in Northern's Journey Check page as being reduced to 2 carriages- both before and after re-opening of the full route. Given that the incoming journey is always full and standing this scenario must persuade Aire Valley passengers to use the electrics!

    New stations for Leeds

There are, of course, more frequent and regular Bus Links with East Midlands Airport. Skyline buses run to Derby Midland, Loughborough and Leicester as well as Long Easton station and Nottingham. Both routes have a twenty minute service though the journey time to Long Easton is almost half an...

Leeds Station concourse and platform improvements

The Platform website also shows a taxi rank (with only one 'London' type taxi!) outside the pedestrian entrance, so I doubt much credence can be awarded to an 'artists impression. The Rotunda building also seems to exclude the Cycle Point!
