    Bedford and LNER

Clearly East Coast diversions via MML are not now feasible. Capacity all along the route and St Pancras would make it impossible. Previously there have been a few EC diversions via March and Cambridge to Kings Cross.
  2. brompton rail

    Bedford and LNER

LNER,no, but BR did! When ECML was being electrified some East Coast services were diverted from Doncaster to St Pancras. Routed via Rotherham Masborough, the Old Road (Barrow Hill) to Chesterfield, then via the Erewash Valley direct to Trent Junction, and down MML via Leicester. East Coast HSTs...

    CrossCountry HST Diagrams

I thought this was normally a double Voyager. Starts as it starts as 06.45 from York. However today it was cancelled at Exeter due to high seas at Dawlish. Probably the sets produced to work it from Plymouth came from various eastbound trains that were cancelled. Only XC HSTs made it to Plymouth...

    CrossCountry HST Diagrams

Interestingly, the inward working from Laira depot (13.06) into platform 7 at Plymouth North Road ( to form 13.25 to Edinburgh) is shown as HST. So, your guess is as good as anybody’s!!

TPE services allocated for Double units

I notice the first Cleethorpes to Manchester Airport service was 3 car instead of 6 again today. Just be warned if you are catching 17.18 from Piccadilly to Sheffield this evening - sardines would have a better ride!

Are there any examples where an alternative route is taken if the service is delayed enough?

Between Sheffield and Derby diversions via “The Old Road” (Beighton / Staveley) between Sheffield and Chesterfield are not uncommon ( some even scheduled for route retention), and via Erewash Valley (Langley Mill & Spondon). Usual causes include broken down trains, landslips etc. Both...

    Best routes to find Pacers?

Quite likely - Sheffield to Hull / Adwick stoppers and Doncaster -Scunthorpe stoppers are likely to remain Pacers until well into next year according to Press reports

Why do long distance XC trains call at Tamworth or Burton?

Problem with speeding up Reading to Newcastle services is that they would conflict with ECML services at Doncaster and the preceding XC Edinburgh service at York. Leaving Birmingham at xx.30 and running in southbound timings service could arrive Sheffield at xx.32; Doncaster at xx.56 and York at...

    Cleethorpes 153

Doesn’t it come in from Lincoln on empty stock working?

HST on 1307 Manchester Piccadilly to Bristol 24/01/18

Followed Sheffield (20.24) to Brid to Swinton, then Doncaster to Leeds stopper from South Kirby to Leeds, so going to be arriving in Leeds around 21.15. Delays between Dore and Sheffield are so regular as to be almost normal.

HST on 1307 Manchester Piccadilly to Bristol 24/01/18

Left New Street 14 minutes (18.44) down and arrived Derby 1 minute late at 19.12.

XC bus from Galashiels to Berwick and RTN

Except that the X4 doesn’t run any longer! First now run service 57 (I think) out to the Airport - out fast via the Great Yorkshire Way link road and returns via the villages; or in the reverse direction on alternate timings. You know how First Bus love circular routes! Current times are...

    XC HST diagrams

The two early starts from Leeds (05.44 & 06.16) are currently HSTs, both are Plymouth bound. XC’s website daily amendments list all the HSTs as being ‘7 coaches High Speed Train’. journeycheck.com/xc

    Crewe - Derby strengthened today

Also an EMT HST set used to run an extra from Sheffield to Nottingham- non stop at 17.34 (just ahead of 17.41 Norwich). Football? The set ran empty from Nottingham to operate the extra service.

The Highland Chieftan - why via Stirling?

Isn't Gleneagles a calling point too?

TPE at Doncaster - Sat 5th Aug

Isn't that because, apart from an odd later departure, there are no Manchester to Cleethorpes trains (& return). TPEx timetable recommends Manchester to Cleethorpes passengers to travel EMT (Liverpool/Norwich) to Sheffield then connect into xx.47 XC (Reading etc) Newcastle departure and change...

Seven TOCs through a point in one day. A first?

Happens every day at Doncaster - TPX - South Pennine VTEC - East Coast Main Line XC - Leeds / Newcastle to Birmingham and beyond Hull Trains - Hull / London Grand Central - Sunderland / Bradford & London Northern - too many to mention EMT - Leeds to St Pancras, Leicester to York &...

    Kings Cross to Beverley

Apologies! Typo - should have read 20.14 departure from Hull. KX to Hull arrives Doncaster at 19.06 (19.05 last night!) on platform 4. The (Sheffield to) Bridlington goes off platform 3b (down steps, through subway, up steps - lifts available but take longer) at 19.19 giving more than...

    Kings Cross to Beverley

There is only one diagram on the Doncaster to Hull stoppers that is normally Pacer operated - 07.28 from Doncaster and then at around 3 hourly intervals (10.xx, 13.xx, 16.xx). Also the sole Lincoln to Hull early evening service is a Pacer. Sheffield- Doncaster - Hull - East Yorkshire Coast...
