Boundary Zone tickets and the Gravesend Tilbury ferry

hi, I was thinking of taking a trip that would include the Gravesend-Tilbury ferry this Saturday, before it (hopefully temporarily) ceases operation. Other plans for the day would mean I would have a Z1-6 travelcard. I am aware that there are not tickets that include the ferry but that there are...

    Oval to London Bridge

what's your actual journey? could there be a better way? (and if you're enough of a transport nerd to be posting on here, how had you missed the publicity campaign about the Bank upgrade/closure?)

    Cambridge - Heathrow

oh that could work- perhaps even changing at Green Park (not as convenient, with luggage, but manageable) given that the Victoria is quite a bit quicker (best part of five minutes). With Piccadilly every ten minutes that could make a difference? Edit, it could, but I'm safer still taking the...

    Cambridge - Heathrow

perhaps, but getting a bit more marginal on timings?

    Cambridge - Heathrow

Hi, I'm looking for advice on how to bring down the cost of getting to Heathrow, given that I need to get the first train on a Monday morning(!) My flight is a BA one at 0845, terminal 5. I have hold luggage to drop, so I need to do that by 0800. If I get the 0454 from Cambridge, I make St...

Moving house - comparing commuting options using maths

surely where you're actually going to makes a difference to the choice? Victoria, Waterloo and London Bridge are in quite different parts of central London. TfL reckons 21 minutes public transport between Victoria and London Bridge (including walking/waiting allowances), which in itself is...

    Greater Anglia 1st class refund

When did you buy the ticket? Greater Anglia ended 1st class fares on the Southend Victoria route at the start of January this year, I thought, with all 1st class on routes other London-Norwich express declassified.

    New Railcard for Veterans...............

so to be clear, with this one you can have a named accompanying adult, but they don't have to accompany you every time? I.E. the discount is available for them when they're with you, but solo travel using it is permitted as well?

Is UK fare evasion enforcement and punishment the harshest in the world?

To be clear, a large number of transit cops, with their guns drawn, who have a train stopped in the platform, have the carriage cleared, board it and throw the suspect to the floor to cuff him. All through this process the suspect is sat there hands up showing no sign of attempting to get away...

Is using 2 Oyster cards against the rules?

Advertising it as 60, but having "secret" leeway for 70, means that in almost all cases if an intended bus near the end of the 60 minutes is late turning up the passenger is not punished

Using a Network Railcard on a delayed pre-10am train

Hmm. The Network Railcard website lists a time easement where Network Railcard is valid on the 0958 from Leighton Buzzard- which doesn't seem to exist anymore. Is the 0953 that train re-timed, and should the website have been updated? Doesn't let you apply railcard discount retrospectively, but...

Pick-up only destination - what grounds to prevent me using

Restrictions like this have been in place since British Railways days- I think Watford may even be a BR era one? Pretty sure people have challenged fines issued because of this and lost on several occasions. So go ahead OP, do it if you think the risk of getting caught or over-carried due to...

Alleged attempt by VTWC to avoid Delay Repay by regulating trains goes wrong

attempting to hit performance targets, or to avoid delay replay, or similar, won't be what caused your train to have technical problems and fail, will it?

    Shepperton to Ely/Cambridge

for the outbound leg, with a through ticket using NSE discount on a weekday National Rail gives an earliest arrival in Ely of 1254, as the "not before 1000" restriction applies making the first departure from Shepperton the 1011. This gets you to Vauxhall for 1059, and there's no way then to...

Why are Off-Peak Returns More Expensive than Off-Peak Day Returns?

Blimey, not just more expensive, more restrictive too. Though how many people take a day trip from Liverpool to New Mills?

Why are Off-Peak Returns More Expensive than Off-Peak Day Returns?

Alternative explanation: because the Off Peak Day Return was a ticket type brought in originally to encourage short distance leisure trips

Stops to set down/pick up only

As a principle it has been around for a long time- British Rail certainly did it. As long as it is advertised correctly (including at special times) then it is very much enforceable- I would not be surprised if people have attempted legal challenges.

    London terminals

but at Waterloo there's a reasonably sensible "not underground" route to Oxford- direct train to Reading, change there for Oxford. At Paddington the only sensible routes to Cambridge are to take the tube to Kings Cross, Liverpool Street or Tottenham Hale (yes, Finsbury Park too I guess and more...

    London terminals

I think it's a fair point- if you buy a ticket at a "London Terminal" to a station for which the only sensible routes involve an underground transfer first of all, the default ticket sold should be one that's valid

Great Northern promoting The Key for annual season ticket renewals

I do find it amusing that both Cambridge and Peterborough are outside the Key area. Peterborough presumably because they can't get agreement with VTEC; Cambridge as that's run by GA and they've not managed to get interoperability with their smart card product?
