ASLEF accept (subject to members agreement) 5% Scotrail Pay Offer

good for the union I say, no-one should advocate a race to the bottom and the misery that ensues.

Grand Union approved for Cardiff to London open access by ORR from December 2024

Looking here there is no sign of a new formal application

Flooding at Haddiscoe (Norfolk) - unit trapped (30/01/22)

given where it ended up, with just the lead bogie over the hole, the driver must have seen that something wasn't right and has done well to get stopped by the time they did.

Trains told to get rid of torrent of 'Tannoy spam'

looking forward to this being completely not acted upon. Maybe they'll add announcements apologising for all the announcements

Bomb squad called after over 1,000 railway detonators found underwater

Explosives do degrade, and they need to be absolutely good, not potentially good!

    Penzance Sleepers Fri 19/11/21

Is this something you've observed for real or or just something you've seen on RealTimeTrains? Because the data feed that the "Know Your Train" feature uses isn't 100% reliable, if the TOC inputs wrong information then RTT will show wrong information

Orion high speed logistics letting the train take the strain.

I don't think that Orion would have reached where they are if they didn't have serious interest from some of the big boys

Orion high speed logistics letting the train take the strain.

Orion is not trying to do a RedStar. They're not (as far as I can see) aiming to be a consumer level business. Rather, they appear to be targeting as their customers the likes of DPD, Hermes, Yodel, Amazon Logistics, UKMail and the host of smaller operators

Lumo - new Open Access operator on the East Coast Main Line

it is definitely a particularly niche thing to be hoping that Lumo join a particular staff rewards scheme so that your own employer will cover Lumo in a reciprocal agreement just to be able to use them through the York avoiding line!

Bridge strike Salisbury 7 October 2021

because presumably an engineer was able to get to the sitte quickly (factor 1) and assess the damage as being in need of repair but relatively minor. Bridges, vehicles and the speed at which the latter hits the former varies wildly so every case is different (there's 4-5 a day on average on...

Lumo - new Open Access operator on the East Coast Main Line

am I supposed to take them seriously when, multiple times on the Edinburgh page appears the word Because oh dear. And their first suggestion of something to do "near" Edinburgh is hire a campervan, drive a long way north and annoy the locals. 1630994467 Stevenage to Luton Airport is a...

ScotRail Industrial Relations issues (including conductor strike action)

it's far, far in excess of the threshold we use to decide governments, make massive changes to the status of the nation, etc.

How far away can you hear a train (in good conditions)?

I'm about 1k from the nearest bit of track, and in town- when the weather's right I can hear the assorted EMUs

    Standing on a Sunday morning…

going hard ball on rail unions would be a terrible idea, leading to total shut down. "fire and re-hire" is a scummy practice that can work if your workforce is precarious. Rail workers, especially those in Safety Critical roles, are not so- training takes time and money that the company has to...

    Standing on a Sunday morning…

do they send 8-car services to Kings Lynn on Sundays now then? 1628535023 It will though take a lot of negotiation if the powers that be wish to transfer all staff to seven day contracts- rather than relying on rest day working to cover Sundays

    Standing on a Sunday morning…

pre-pandemic this was a frequent issue on Cambridge fast trains on Sundays- packed 8 car services to London were common
