Voltage change at Bad Bentheim - how does it work?

Presumably for this the "occupation" is determined not by track circuits/axle counters, but whether there is a pantograph drawing power.

    French TGV's

ooh, not quite. The American ones are Avelia Liberty, the TGV M is Avelia Horizon . Very similar power cars, quite different trailer sets- as well as being single deck, the Liberty trailers are tilting, as compared to the non-ti;ting duplex Horizon trailers.

    French TGV's

the POS sets, are, of course, Réseau trailers. Very tangentially related- I've seen recently videos of "TGV-M" trailers and power cars being moved- aka Avelia Horizon, the next gen Duplex. There's 100 sets, which would more than replace the remaining single deck TGVs in the fleet and expand the...

Trenitalia "Pop" train carries the Giro d'Italia trophy

A national railway operator sponsoring a race that visits most of the country, to promote the country, is weird? Major bike races art all about tourism and travel, something a railway operator has a big interest in!

    Wuppertal Schwebebahn ticketing

do they insist on clearing the trains at the ends, or can you ride the turning loops?

    French "Gares Maritimes"

yeah, Gare maritime is a term that in no way implies anything to do with railways- it is simply "sea station", like "gare Routière" is "road station" and "gare de chemin de fer" is "railway station". on which, looking at maps Gare Maritime Orsetti, at Sete (with ferries to Morocco and Algiers)...

Pakistan eyes standard gauge line to the Middle East and Europe

Perhaps (from a cursory look at terrain relief maps) the engineers involved with the proposal believe they can build a more direct track route in places?

Train hits crashed light aircraft in Los Angeles

additional thing to be surprised by: the crash happened in broad daylight. The railway is straight and level for over two miles before the crash site. Appearances can be deceiving but it'll be interesting to know quite how fast the train was going and how that compares to line speed.

Train hits crashed light aircraft in Los Angeles

Twenty minutes is incredible and (in my view) the police should have massive liability here. There's notices with the emergency contact the crossing As to why there's an an airport there? It'll be because it was empty scrub when it was built.

Highlight of new long distance trains in 2022 EU timetable

More than prospective, the tickets for the first services (Saturday!) have all but sold out. The same stock is going to be used on the new FS services on the Spanish high speed network, and they're raising the possibility of Madrid-Marseille-Milan as well

Eurostar brand to remain post-merger and to be complete in three years

The Thalys PBA sets (which are tri-current TGV Réseau, but red) are 25 years old, the quad current PBKA are only a couple of years younger. I guess that decisions about livery of future fleet- and what that might be, more importantly- are still a pretty long way off given SNCF seem to reckon on...

Mini Frecciarossa trains proposed for Sicily connection

RFI took delivery of a brand new vessel, Iginia (the second vessel to bear the name), a sister ship to the Messina launched in 2013, this year. That's quite a vote of confidence!

"Piggyback" lorry trailer service France - Ashford.

yeah, reading that and other stories it appears to be that Eurotunnel/Getlink are supplying a fleet of tractor units & drivers to take the trailers through the Shuttle system and to a depot at Ashford for pickup by UK drivers. I have seen proposals from similar systems (Modalohr) to build a...

Amtrak award contract to Siemens to supply 83 'Intercity Trainsets'

I've not found a good answer. But as a note- there's no such as an AGV power car. the AGV design has passengers in all cars and power distributed along the length.
