    watering plants with lemon water

Diluted Lemonade can be used to extend the life of cut flowers in a vase (particularly carnations), but I would not use it for living plants that still have roots. For plants that require acidic conditions, don’t use tap water - rainwater is best. Also use an ericaceous compost. Something...

    Walking and Rambling discussion

Has anyone done a walk from Abbey Wood ? Looking for 12-14 miles for our group starting at Abbey Wood, we would get there using the Elizabeth Line from Farringdon. I found a couple of possible routes to end in Greenwich though not checked the actual distance. I did look at starting from...

How much Luggage do you Take for a 2 Night Trip?

Depends on the purpose of the trip and time of year. If going on a walking trip I would take my large suitcase plus large rucksack. Packing Walking boots, waterproofs and thicker base layers/ fleeces for 3 days walking in winter weather would fill the case.

Royal Mail letter post/Christmas card deliveries in December 2023.

We have had a post delivery every day this week so far. Maybe because there was also a parcel delivered with the cards on Tuesday.

Royal Mail letter post/Christmas card deliveries in December 2023.

We generally seem to receive post on alternate days, usually Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. We did get a delivery on Saturday this week which is unusual. Our delivery tends to arrive just before 9am. The postmarks of the cards received today show most were posted last Thursday so not too bad...

    Shrinkflation - examples?

It depends what the product is. If I am baking and the recipe requires 250g of something which is now reduced to a 200g pack then I have to buy 2 packets and potentially waste most of the 2nd packet. E.g. One of the usual butter brands had reduced to 200g so I bought the alternative brand...

    Supermarkets discussion

Our nearest supermarket is Morrisons which is about 10 minutes walk so tend to use that for day to day items. I don’t drive so The large Sainsbury’s is harder to get to (25 mins walk or bus). My brother does a weekly shop there so gets some items for us though recently they have a tendency not...

    Hotel Chains Discussion

What dates are these? The Uk snooker championship is on in York the first weekend of December and the Christmas markets also attract a lot of visitors. Premier inn tend to have high prices if there are major events scheduled for a particular location. E.g. when I was looking in Leeds for the...

    Shortage Of Eggs

Our greengrocer had a shortage of large eggs a few weeks ago as they said the hens had been affected by the very hot weather in the summer, so the eggs were generally smaller with thinner shells. They seem to back to normal now albeit the hens are now indoors.

    Bread discussion

We get a wholemeal loaf from our local bakery. They slice it and out it into paper wrapper. This lasts almost a week without going mouldy and toasts well. I find if the bread is in a plastic wrapper it sweats and then goes mouldy within a few days. So the paper wrapper is much better.

    Water Shortages / Drought

Our semi-detached house cannot be fitted with a water meter. There is a shared mains supply with next door. The supply goes under next door’s kitchen then goes into our kitchen. The stop valve in the street shuts off both houses. So a meter installed at that position would be showing the...

    Food prices

I am looking to get a larger freezer to store more boxes of faller Bramley apples which won’t store otherwise. Last Spring after we had used our stored ones it was costing about £10 each week to buy about 5 decent sized apples.

You know Christmas isn’t far away when…

Our Wilko has now got Christmas items in one of the gardening aisles and also a large Halloween section. They still have some gardening items, mainly spring bulbs and pots etc. they seemed to be heavily promoting that Christmas lights are currently 20% off - offer ends this Wednesday!

Is the use of cash dying out?

I think due to their location they don’t have a reliable phone line and mobile reception is patchy. Plenty of customers today - there is no other option nearby.
