    Great Northern Fleet - 379s

Pre 2018 the Cambridge peak stoppers went fast from Welwyn Garden City to Finsbury Park, though I think 1 also called at Hatfield. The morning stoppers used to couple at Royston then changed later so they were 8 coaches with rear 4 out of use until Royston due to the 4 coach platforms at the...

Class 365 scrap movements + preservation discussion

I think one went something like this.. “This is a special announcement to assist passengers when boarding and alighting from the train”. (Then it proceeded to tell you how the open the doors) One of the GN drivers used to play that one fairly regularly.

    LNER Azuma (Class 800/801)

I saw the 1730 Kings Cross to Edinburgh Azuma boarding at Kings Cross this evening (I was on the 365 on the adjacent platform) I noticed that the displays on the outside of the coaches were scrolling the calling stations. After Dunbar, it listed calling at Abbeyhill Junction and Edinburgh...

    The Horror of Pacers

Northern treated us to a 2 coach 144 on the 1302 Scarborough to Sheffield service yesterday. I was travelling Scarborough to Doncaster. It got cosy after Bridlington as the previous service had been cancelled due to earlier signalling problems so there was a large crowd waiting at Bridlington...

    Thameslink/ Class 700 Progress

I have found that the 700s are generally too cold though they are still humid. On a few journeys to Cambridge recently I have had to keep my coat on to keep warm. In contrast on the 365s I normally can put my coat onto the overhead rack unless it is very cold outside and I happen to be in one of...

    GN Class 717

I noticed that the 717 stop boards have appeared on the platforms at Letchworth. (Same position as the RLU/3/4/6/8 stopping point)

    GTR 365 to storage

I saw a DRS loco hauling 2 x 365 units through Letchworth this morning. 365501 was at the rear. They appear to be going from Ely to Northampton. http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/K91329/2018/06/29/advanced Must have annoyed the passengers waiting on platform 1 seeing an empty train pass...

    Thameslink/ Class 700 Progress

The 0656 Peterborough to Kings Cross (12 coach 700) and 0713 Royston to Kings Cross (8 coach 700) were both cancelled due to train faults this morning. The 0720 Letchworth to Kings Cross (6 coach 313) also cancelled due to a train fault. Result that at Stevenage the 0731, 0736 and 0738 services...

    GTR 365 to storage

I think the peak services in the new timetable starting from Baldock/Royston to Kings Cross are also booked as 2x365s.

    Thameslink/ Class 700 Progress

I saw a 700 going northbound through platform 3 at Stevenage around 9am this morning. I was sitting in a 365 at platform 1 so didn’t see which unit it was.

    Thameslink/ Class 700 Progress

Presumably because the doors on the 700s are wider so they need a wider ramp otherwise there will be a drop and also potentially move in use if they don't fit into the doorway properly - these ramps would not fit on the other stock - e.g. 365s/387s. The wider ramps will presumably also be used...

'Alternative fuel' trains for Windermere instead of electrification

Ambleside is included in the Windermere Plusbus area - though it is a bit cheaper to pay on the bus if just wanting a single to Ambleside. plusbus is best if wanting Grasmere. (or buy the stagecoach central lakes day ticket on the bus which gives larger route coverage to Coniston and Langdale)...

'Alternative fuel' trains for Windermere instead of electrification

The original plan for that line was to run onwards from Windermere via Grasmere to Keswick but Wordsworth and Ruskin amongst others objected as it would bring lots of tourists to Grasmere (somewhat ironic really as nowadays a lot of them go specifically to Grasmere to visit Wordsworth's house!)...

'Alternative fuel' trains for Windermere instead of electrification

On the current timetable at lot of the trains are only in Windermere for about 5 minutes before returning back to Oxenholme as they need to connect into an onward service to London. So not much time to recharge but presumably even 4-5 minutes would be better than nothing. Platform 3 at...

    Thameslink/ Class 700 Progress

I caught the 08:08 from St Pancras to Blackfriars yesterday morning. (Bromley South service - 8 coach 700) The train was almost empty when it arrived at St Pancras. I had a bay of 4 seats to myself in the 1st class section at the back. RTT suggests it had left St Albans 14 minutes late and...

    Class 387 to GN

the 07:09 from Letchworth has been at least 6 minutes late each day this week so far. Presumably due to delays at coupling the units at Cambridge. I was on the 07:09 yesterday - on approaching Kings Cross the driver made an announcement saying there were a number of occasions in the last few...

    Class 387 to GN

I was on the 07:09 from Letchworth this morning (05:51 from Kings Lynn) - 3x387. previously there were some seats available when boarding at Letchworth when it was 3x365 but it was full and standing this morning. I walked back through 3 coaches - the only empty seats were in one of the 1st...

    Class 387 to GN

The screens for today's 07:09 at Letchworth (05:51 from Kings Lynn) said 1st class was in coaches 4,5 and 12. However it also said the train was formed of 20 coaches (it said 16 yesterday) !!!

New PIS at last on the 365s!

I was on one of the 365s with the upgraded PIS yesterday. It announced that the service was going to "Cambridge. .... North" Quite amusing to hear it advising passengers to alight at WGC for the Howard Centre. I was on a 365 on Saturday - I assume this one has the old PIS as the driver...
