Why does Eurostar not pay delay repay in the case of cancelled trains?

They will (eventually) give compensation. The relevant page is here: https://www.eurostar.com/uk-en/travel-info/service-information/claiming-compensation

Stansted Airport Gateline - was I in the right?

Thanks. The ticket in question was this one - not too fussed about pursuing, it, just wanted to check I wasn't arguing the toss incorrectly! The only delay to the travel was me not realising that XC had gone down to two-hourly...

Stansted Airport Gateline - was I in the right?

So, had to visit a place on the outskirts of Bishop's Stortford a while ago - took my folding bike on the train via Cambridge. On the way back, the trains were looking a bit of a mess (not badly), so I thought I'd ride over to Stansted and catch the train up to Cambridge from there. It's quite...

LNER First Class cheaper than standard, surely an error?

Happens all the time. I used to be an expert at seeking out services where 1st was cheaper, in order to satisfy the only criterion that would let me travel 1st for work... (Used to work on Premium Economy for flights, too...)

Questions for people who have used e-tickets

I had my second e-ticket experience last week. My first one had been smooth enough. I used an app (TrainPal - for the discounts). However, preparing the app for the barriers at Ipswich, the app just crashed band refused to restart. Thankfully, a phone restart sorted it. What would happen in...

Passing platform revenue blocks in order to board a train you might otherwise miss

Same further up the line at Biggleswade, with a similar issue that the bridge is a right of way (and I've had to argue my way past revenue blocks on the bridge before now). When half a full-and-standing 12-car 387 disgorges at Biggleswade, it takes long enough with that narrow staircase without...

Instances where rovers are cheaper than singles/returns

I won't go into the fares that the Anglia Plus undercuts (there are many), but the ticket offices round that way are really good at offering it (and Manningtree splits) unprompted. Do they still have the Day Rangers as the default option on the St Ives Bay line?

Hitchin to Manningtree (Not via London)

Indeed, no less than Greater Anglia will sell you the ticket... But good idea. Im not sure what route you'd be expected to take on a Network Railcard HIT-MNG ticket if not the North London Line, mind.

Hitchin to Manningtree (Not via London)

I need to head off to the wilds of NE Essex. I noticed in the journey planners that a Hitchin to Manningtree (Not via London) ticket comes up with two possible routes. The first, most obvious one is via Cambridge and Ipswich. But the journey planner is also offering me a route via Highbury &...

LNER Only SVG-KGX with Network Card - No Minimum Fare?

Indeed, but from the same link: Which isn't that unusual - I've seen GDRs available during the week in the summer months too. The bit that surprised me was the minimum £13 not being applied for the discount. This was on the LNER site, and a couple others.

LNER Only SVG-KGX with Network Card - No Minimum Fare?

Was heading into London from Stevenage today. While I was checking the times, I noticed an incredibly cheap fare - £6.55 return with LNER Only (Super Off-Peak). Checking the conditions, it mentioned that LNER was lifting all time restrictions during the "Crimbo Limbo" week. Is this correct -...

Ticket with brand mixing: Avanti West Coast only ticket with specified Virgin Trains service

Had a LNER one market VTEC last week (normally scheduled train, sadly more than a penny).

LNER, WY Daysaver and South Elmsall

Aye, fair comment. I used to do a lot of rather creative splits when I had a season ticket, and never had a problem (this is DOO-land, though). There were always a couple of VTEC /LNER guards who had a problem with Stevenage and evening peak tickets, mind, but that's a different discussion...

LNER, WY Daysaver and South Elmsall

Thanks - I didn't even think it'd be an issue until I was actually on the train. But I've read of some issues here (admittedly with XC and TP). As it happened the LNER TVM at Leeds offered both fares, with no way of telling them apart.

LNER, WY Daysaver and South Elmsall

So, I was in Wakefield recently, had some time spare and got a WY Daysaver Train and pottered about for a bit. My ticket back to Peterborough was from Doncaster, so I bought a South Elmsall to Doncaster single and hopped on the same train at Leeds. Now, there was no ticket check so I've no idea...

Is is possible to do a full circle on one ticket?

When the T&W Metro opened, the ticket machines had 9 fare options: ABCD12345 depending on journey length and fare zones. But they specifically advertised "the loop" as a fare option, for people who either wanted the experience, or wanted to get the first train for the journey to/from the coast...

Changing off-peak tickets to peak tickets

Out of interest, how do you get an excess fare from a TVM?

We've got the Key, it's no secret... (Smartcards on GTR)

So, I've been using KeyGo for a couple of weeks, and it's worked well. In theory, it's great for me. Irregular travel, peak time (so no railcard) and I don't always know if I'll need a return half or even will end up going somewhere different. But it's worked great. Avoided those awful ticket...

    Special Offers Discussion
