Stansted coach changes - a bit of a mess

Oh, Stelios is involved now? <gets out popcorn> --- old post above --- --- new post below --- I wonder if this is an official arrangement, or if easyBus are basically going to run the minibuses through as if they were private vehicles? This could get fun...

Buses Turning Round By Doing 180 Degree Turn In The Middle Of The Road

The 73 (formerly Mars 3) bus from Biggleswade to Bedford has to do a rather awkward 3-point turn down Engayne Avenue in Sandy halfway through its route. This leg may soon be cut, though (controversially...)

Where have you been by bus?

Hmm, go on then. A mixed bag for me. London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Bristol, Manchester, Leicester, Coventry, Hull, Bradford, Stoke, Wolverhampton, Nottingham, Plymouth, Southampton, Reading, Derby, Dudley, Newcastle, Northampton, Portsmouth, Luton, Preston, Milton Keynes...

    Arm Out at Bus Stops?

Trying to stop a Stagecoach Bedford bus, on one of the barely visible lay-bys on the A1, involves running out, and jumping up and down with your arms in the air, only to get it to pull over into the verge a couple hundred yards down the road, and be met with paddington stares by the passengers...

"Some Buses Are Driven By Volunteers"

There's a similar venture in another part of Beds, the Ivel Sprinter. I keep meaning to take a trip up to Cambridge in one of these, but always forget...

    Worst bus interchanges/stations

In terms of the actual structure, Bedford bus station is pretty dire. There's an old joke that say that Bedford isn't twinned with anywhere, but it does have a suicide pact with Warsaw, and the area immediately around the bus station is the reason why. The area is ugly, windswept and filthy...

Toughest place to be a Bus Driver

Which line were you thinking of? I've been on the Aguas Calientes to Cusco train - the switchbacks approaching Cusco are unbelievable. We were delayed due to being derailed on one of them - whereupon several people in nearby houses appeared and helped the driver use an iron bar to lever us...

Toughest place to be a Bus Driver

Wow - well congratulations on a thoroughly excellent series. Can't wait for the second! A few I can think of would be: South Africa - trains are used to repatriate refugees from Zimbabwe, who do everything possible to escape from the train before the border. Trains going the other way...

Missed the bus? The route that runs only four times year

I live not far from Henlow, and we do get plenty services like this in this part of Beds. Some of them are surprisingly well patronised - basically a local coach company runs them more as shopping excursions to MK and Cambridge than anything else. However, Central Beds council has no interest...

Saying thank you to bus drivers

Always say thankyou in the UK, unless it's somewhere with rear doors, like London. I also always greet the driver when boarding, it would seem odd not to. Abroad, I follow others' lead. Always try to say 'hello' anyway.

Faith school bus subsidy to end

I agree in principle, but don't think it's quite that clear cut. In the cities, it's clear that faith schools generally exist to educate pupils within a certain faith. I, personally, believe that education and religion should be separated, the latter being an entirely private matter...
