TRIVIA: Things you saw travelling on the LU that you don't see today

Sounds about right. I didn't know the area very well in those days - I just remember trying to navigate my way through the confusing tunnels trying to get from Aldgate to Brick Lane! (I ended up working - in a now demolished building - in Aldgate, for 4 years. The centre had gone by then...

TRIVIA: Things you saw travelling on the LU that you don't see today

I came here to post about those single-fare ticket machine too! I have an abiding memory of travelling from Havant up to Newcastle with my Gran, using these on the Tube, and having to explain to her about how the Northern Line didn't run all the way through to King's Cross. The Waterloo & City...

Changing At Green Park: Faster To Use The Escalators?

Maybe not always faster, but... A number of people changing at Green Park are arriving from Heathrow with luggage. In which case, the escalator route (npi) is a godsend!

    Loud music commuters on Underground

When I first moved to London, I used to occasionally commute from Tooting Broadway (bus from Earlsfield), and having trains starting there was quite common at the time. When I lived by Clapham Common tube, I simply had to avoid the rush hour. It used to be the case that you could double back...

How much of the Underground map have YOU covered?

Well, from memory... Bakerloo: All Central: All except Woodford - Epping Circle: All District: All except Barking - Upminster Hammersmith and City: Hammersmith - Whitechapel Jubilee: All Metropolitan: All except Amersham Northern: All Piccadilly: All (and my goodness, isn't the trip...

    Northern Line

Too right. Just look at how many people still seem to live in counties that ceased to exist in 1974, and fail to accept that 020 is the STD code for London...

    Heathrow terminal 5 underground

You can also walk out of T5, from the ground (arrivals) level. Turn right out of the building along the road, past the square with the giant airport codes where the smokers congregate, and then the bike racks. You'll find yourself on a shared use (bike/foot) path that leads you along to the...
