    Police to train driver

Hasn't everyone now? Is there anybody left that side?

    Peaked Caps in uniforms

That sounds awful. Reminds of when North Wales Police over to baseball caps, they just looked like low rent bouncers.

    Peaked Caps in uniforms

I much prefer traditional uniform, the likes of a peaked cap make staff more readily recognisable and give an impression of formality, which customer service grades should be/have, particularly the likes of RPIs. The Brittas Empire, 90s leisure centre excuse for a uniform looks pretty woeful to...

    Irish Rail Recruiting Train Drivers

Is it only Fairview and Bray that work DART or do Connolly do a mix of Intercity, Commuter and DART?

Career as a MIP (Wheelchair User)

I'm afraid Conducting/Guard would be a non-starter, as a basic rulebook requirement needs you to be able to walk (unsaid, but hastily) on ballast for a mile and a quarter in order to lay emergency protection, at least.

Is nepotism rife in the railways?

I agree with this. I think from a recruitment point of view, there's an expectation that they know what they're getting into too. I think there's also a somewhat greater degree of accountability when they're related to somebody who's well respected, they're not just representing themselves. Of...

    TOCs with no union recognition

Another factor with what must be a small operator could be, that if it goes under and none of the Drivers are in ASLEF, you won't have ASLEF trying to help to get the redundant drivers recruited promptly elsewhere.

    Weekends and part-time railway jobs

    I entirely agree.

West Midlands Trains Driver Salary / transferees

Surely a £74k+ basic is still not norm even if 'based out of London'? It's tough at the top, the only other way is down. ;)

Rail jobs for 16-18 year olds

21 is for Drivers, 18 otherwise.

Single mum thinking of train driving. Possible?

And you'd have to be aware that the vast majority of your colleagues would never be afforded the same privilege as you, if you were to somehow be allowed to pick your turns as a new starter. 'Accommodation', as it is known, is usually only given to those who's circumstances have changed, having...

    Is there a drought?

Personally I wouldn't be surprised if this is a deliberate direction the DfT have encouraged/stipulated, having woken up to the idea that unmanaged competition and movement between TOCs for qualified drivers has in the past driven up pay rises. With it all under their control these transfers...

Different Driver Depot, Route and Traction cards

I thought so, thanks. The Salop men paid the highest price for Central Trains' failures... Tbh, I hadn't really thought about it, but imagined the TfW depot was split out of the Central Trains depot for Wales & Borders, rather than started afresh by ATW.

Did Shrewsbury not sign Aberystwyth pre-ERTMS?

    Trainee Conductor - Common Faults

Releasing doors off the platform or on the wrong side, if that is part off your responsibility. The easiest personally consequential mistake you can make.

    New drivers & incident rates

I think it's a by-product of the recruitment process and the qualities that it's trying to seek. I can often imagine that the... self confidence, of some probably worked very well for the MMI and DMI, but can cause issues in the real world.

    New drivers & incident rates

Maybe that bloke on the RED videos will give us a clue what is going on at some point, he seems to know what's up with most stuff.

    New drivers & incident rates

I think this is certainly a possibility, until fairly recently it has been a very different railway from the one of old, in places. There are places where you'd have rarely seen a green where you now only see a green, until you don't. I don't think some new externals can even imagine what it was...
