No times showing for replacement buses on North Downs Line 03/02

No trains at all next week on the whole line (10-18 Feb inclusive). Bus times are showing. However, the national rail website says 'Engineering work is taking place between Reading and Guildford', so why are the no trains between Redhill and Guildford?

    GWR Class 165/166 Turbo Diagrams

Agree, there was no service last week due to engineering works and no service again this week at certain times due to 'more trains than usual needing repairs at the same time'.

NRE - North Downs Line November Closure.

Interestingly, the line was also closed yesterday (Sunday 29 October). I wonder what was so urgent that it couldn't keep.

Yikes, this is a long closure for a non-holiday period.

January 2022 - Emergency Timetable Threads

Unfortunately for me, the SWR emergency timetable ends this week. All back to *normal* next week but not to pre COVID levels of service.

SWR - Further Timetable Reductions from 17/1

Sorry, I should have stated that, for me, the service is better because of the timings. My route is Epsom / Guildford so only one service per hour. When a service is only hourly, the timing is very important and it is better for me under the new timetable.

SWR - Further Timetable Reductions from 17/1

There were notably more people taking the 07.04 from Epsom to Waterloo today than yesterday, since the WFH order was lifted. It will be interesting to see how other routes fare. Not many expected the WFH order to be lifted so soon. Paradoxically, services on the Epsom route are better than...

SWR - Further Timetable Reductions from 17/1

I note they have retimed all the Epsom trains, frequency stays the same.

    December 2021 Timetable change

I couldn't agree more. The old time was 17.50 or more recently, 17.49 for the stopper from Guildford to Redhill. This is much more convenient for commuting when work finishes at 17.30. The new time is 18.13 although the train could depart at 18.07. The result is that the new timetable puts an...

When will we get our fourth train an hour in each direction back at Horsley?

I think it could almost be a chicken and egg situation. If the timetable is poor, it makes the railways less attractive, so fewer passengers use it, leading to fewer services, etc. There are alternatives, such as private car, taxi, bus, working from home, etc. Or Not going out at all for...

List of published December 2019 timetable pdf files

The SWR timetable is a work of fiction, certainly for most of December. We don't know how many strikes are planned for 2020.

Platform Changes at Guildford in May 2019 timetable

I am somewhat confused by the platform changes for the new May 2019 timetable. Yesterday, the 08.13 GWR service to Reading arrived platform 5, today it was platform 8 - the usual platform. The 17.44 GWR service to Reading uses platform 8 as before. However, the 17.50 GWR service to Redhill also...

How Frequent does 'Turn up and go' mean to you

Also depends on ticket type. No point in turning up if your ticket is not valid on the train in question as it is am or pm peak.

Current and Previous class 455 Fast Services

This is an oxymoron and makes me chuckle. The line via Mitcham Junction is usually excruciatingly slow.

    Southern Timetable Change 2018

Points failure at Redhill and broken down train at Gatwick causing many delays this morning.

    Southern Timetable Change 2018

The problem is that SWR has not significantly changed its timetable yet, so until December things will be considerably worse on some routes. Most of the benefits go to Thameslink, rather than Southern.

    Southern Timetable Change 2018

It is not acceptable for Southern to be partaking in their propaganda exercise - frequent station announcements of "improvements" and through other means, when the service for many people and routes will be getting worse. For example, there will be no direct trains at any time from the...

    3tph on North Downs Line

The weekday timetable, as it has been updated for 21 May, sees a drastic reduction in services for places such as Gomshall. Instead of 3 trains to Guildford/Reading before 9AM, there is only one, at 07.58. Is GWR able to make such a drastic change without prior consultation?

    Southern Timetable Change 2018

This timetable change presents me with a problem. I travel from Brockley to Caterham late Friday evening. Now there are no direct services, and the connection times at East Croydon are long (18 - 21 minutes). The alternative is to get the overground to West Croydon and the 407 bus.
