Bloody hell, I have been to Nuneaton, I can't imagine half the town entering the marathon somehow.....

I imagine the trains are intended for spectators rather than competitors as it would be rather a rush to get from Euston to Greenwich in time for the start, particularly on the Liverpool train.

Other TOCs are running marathon specials too (e.g. Chiltern have one leaving Aylesbury at 06.55 for runners, and Risborough at 09.08 for spectators, and they've extended free travel for all runners across their network)—but does the official site of the Virgin London Marathon mention this? Thought not.

Trains are replacing buses on the Great Eastern early Sunday morning services into Liverpool St. The possessions for overhead line replacement that usually apply every Sunday have been curtailed for the marathon.

Did I see Virgin are sponsoring the marathon this year, hence their new found interest?

Yes, in the post above!

Can a pendolino stop at these stations due to having no RA indicators on the signals though? I'm not sure how dispatch of pendos works, just know that every station between crewe and milton keynes bar rugeley, atherstone and polesworth has CD and RA indicators.

I see no reason why not. None of the stations up the North Wales Coast have CD indicators, and most don't have RAs either but 390s used to serve them.

The extra trains are where there wouldn't normally be a service (first train from Wolves on a Sunday is 0805 otherwise). At the time it finishes, there will be a regular service, and I'd imagine the journeys of people returning will be more spread out throughout the day.
