On my way back to Sheffield via the Friday 11:11 Leeds to Plymouth HST but it now has 6 carriages instead of the usual 7, any idea why?
Most likely one of the coaches needs some maintenance and there are no spares to put in its place. I think it has been running as a 2+6 for around a week now.
See this thread on more on this. I don't think the sets will be shortened. https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/xc-acquire-two-new-hst-power-cars.198350/'Rail' magazine (latest edition) is reporting that the reduction is permanent for all the sets. It adds that 'XC is investigating ways of improving capacity(!) - including running more, shorter, HSTs. It is looking.... at leasing a small number of additional '43s' for service requirements'.
No it's not.'Rail' magazine (latest edition) is reporting that the reduction is permanent for all the sets. It looks like ex-LNER power cars 43208 & 43239 are being reserved for Cross-Country, they are apparently at Eastleigh getting painted up into XC livery. There is no word on any extra MKIII's for XC, so it looks like these 2 extra power cars will give them 12 power cars for 5 sets (when XC05 is completed at Wabtec)No it's not.
Indeed, to allow for more intensive running of the 5 sets.It looks like ex-LNER power cars 43208 & 43239 are being reserved for Cross-Country, they are apparently at Eastleigh getting painted up into XC livery. Thats great news. Do you know if XC are scheduled to get anymore ex-LNER power cars, or is it just going to be 43208/239?Indeed, to allow for more intensive running of the 5 sets.
No. It's just the 2.Thats great news. Do you know if XC are scheduled to get anymore ex-LNER power cars, or is it just going to be 43208/239?
