153 349??

Hello all,

Does this 153 actually exist? My friend says he noted 153349 and cannot find it in his book...I cannot find it myself, is this a renumbered FGW 153? He seen it a week or two ago, and another time seen 153 349 with 150 243

Any help appreciated!

No it doesn't exist, I'm afraid your friend has got the number wrong!

I infact noted this before. I'm not sure if it's the same unit, but there is a photo somewhere of it at Tiverton Parkway I believe, yet the number is nowhere to be found with any of the TOCs. It is one digit off the last Sprinter FGW operate (348 I think).

Perhaps it is 348 with a chunk of the 8 missing?

There is no 349, or 348 for that matter, units are numbered in the range 153301-335 and 153351-385. Individual cars are numbered 52301-335 and 57351-385 (originally 57301-335), with the last three digits corresponding to the unit number. AFAIK, the 15* dmu fleet can't be renumbered to a certain extent, unlike locomotives, else they would clash with other classes.

35 Cl155s were split - the former 57xxx cars had 50 added to their number - hence the gap

I said he has it written wrong as the range is 301-335 and 351 - 385, but he said how can he have noted it twice over two days..I has it on camera in the Middle Sidings, I doubt now anyone would be able to know what one was allocated that day to sit there though

He also noted 43044 (on FGW land as an MTU somehow, that is a mistake) and 319350, which again does not exist.


I cannot find a photo for 153349 on fotopic either so there is no photos about..

Although the number dosent exist...Thatll be 153369 then...one of the 2 ex Central 153's then The Looe Valley Explorer with Wessex Trains and now just 153369 with FGW...

No offence, but do you think your friend may be dyscalculic? (the numerical equivalent of dyslexic)

Maybe trainspotting is not the hobby for him?!

FGW has 158748 aswell as 158745,746 and 747
