Given the shortage of diesel units is there value in putting spare 153s back in pairs as 155s? One car would need an accessible toilet. Othe car could be left as is. Leave the small cabs alone as not worth the cost of removal. Minimalist refurb of seats and decor so as to be cheap to lease. Or are they too corroded?

153s are entirely capable of working in multiple with each other, and they have gangway ends, so I don't see any advantage in rebuilding 155s from them when you could just run them in multiple.

A derogation to allow them to run in pairs with only one PRM'ed would surely be significantly easier and cheaper to sort out than actually modifying the units.

They certainly sag in the middle, but I don't think they're quite dead yet.

But with 156s and 158s coming off lease with EMR before too long, and 158s and 175s from TfW, is there sufficient demand now?
