Do 175s still work the occassional Birmingham service during the week/on Saturdays? There are currently two booked turns into Birmingham on Sunday evenings - one via Stafford, the other via Wrexham and Telford.

When it used to be Chester-Birmingham instead of Holyhead, 175s used to be a semi-regular occurence standing in for the booked 158s, during the week. Does this still happen now that they work from Holyhead to Birmingham?

Unfortunately to see them in Birmingham during the week or on Saturdays would be very rare indeed - almost every service that arrives from Holyhead departs as a service for the Cambrian Line, which is trialling ERTMS and as such can only be run using Class 158s (or Class 97 locomotives), and vice-versa.

The only time you'd ever see 175s is if a set-swap had occured or was to occur at Shrewsbury, or engineering works had closed the Cambrian (but still probably not).

I caught one last year out of Brum, that was on a Thursday evening so it does still happen on occasions.

I never see anything on the cambrian line but 158s and I travel on them 2-4 times a week

Anything other than an ATW 158 on the Cambrian Line has to be hauled by a Network Rail Class 97, so you the only passenger trains will be worked by 158s.

From time to time a 175 will work from Holyhead but is usually swapped out at Shrewsbury on the way in rather than on the way out as it can just become the service for Holyhead while the service from Birmingham becomes the service for Birmingham.
