I am looking for the headcodes for Newcastle-Liverpool trains (and vice versa) in the 1973/4, 1974/5 and 1975/6 timetables.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Can't remember them all, but for several years, 1M77 and 1M79 were the last (weekday) trains from Newcastle to Liverpool. I think 1M63 or 1M67 was one of the morning departures from Newcastle.

I have a 1975 photo of a Peak with headcode 1E16, possibly on the last afternoon departure from Liverpool to Newcastle.

1M67 was the first Sunday arrival in Liverpool from Newcastle (based on 2 photos of diverted services in 1970 & 1976.)

If there isn't a list of them all anywhere, I am specifically looking for the headcodes for

1) The Liverpool-Newcastle train which left York at 15:21 on Sat 24/8/74 (it was hauled by 40052).
2) The 07:55 Newcastle-Liverpool which ran on Tue 20/4/76 (also hauled by a Class 40)

From photos I've got, the 08:00 Liverpool-Newcastle was 1E91 in 1973 and 1974.

Try this method, using the "Wayback" website, which leads to selective archives of old versions of web pages. For example, see:

http://web.archive.org/web/20080509065131/http://www.timewarp.abelgratis.com/dy/jul77.html

Scroll down through the daily entries and you will find some Liverpool / Newcastle trains and their headcodes.

For other months, starting with:-

http://www.timewarp.abelgratis.com/dy/jun77.html

Alter the date and year in the above web address and copy it into the search box on this page:

http://archive.org/web/

It should give a calendar of dates on which archive versions were saved. It is pot luck as to which months & year pages still exist as archives, but if you search enough, it may provide most of the headcodes you need. Good luck. (PS - page versions saved in 2009 or earlier seem most likely to contain useful data; some pages saved in 2011 or later seem to have lost much of the data.)

Have you trawled ebay or second hand book sellers for the necessary Working Timetables? Eastern Region Mandatory Section A (or YA) covers the section of Main Line between York and Newcastle over which these services operated and, I think, YG for the remainder of their journey within the Eastern Region.

This is something I hadn't thought of and I will pursue.

And thank you Bevan Price. The on-line archives are really interesting, and will help me with some other queries too.

Thank you both for your help.
