Does anyone know why this service has been cancelled between July 29th & August 2nd?

There is no mention of its cancellation on the "Forthcoming Engineering Works" section of the VT websiite and it is not showing-up in the booking engines.
RTT shows it as "cancelled in timetable"
It actually starts short at Crewe at 0653.

The 3 units to Holyhead the night before - 1710, 1810 and 1910 ex Euston - are all running as usual, so there will be a spare unit at Holyhead with no corresponding ECSs back.

I appreciate the Action Grange remodelling is happening around that time, but the North Wales-Euston service goes nowhere near Warrington.

It is particulary galling, as I wished to book it.

A protracted email conversation with VT today eventually revealed only that the "timetable has been updated"

It has run Mon-Fri for at least the last 9 years, and runs normally from August 6th onwards.

Anyone help?

There is high output ballast cleaning at Beeston overnight on those dates, but they should be out of the way by the time 1R13 turns up unless they have extended the block times. The Blackpool portion obviously won't be there to join up with it at Crewe because of Acton Grange.

I've just looked at RTT for two dates and it shown as running from Holyhead as normal
Sorry, but I've just checked RTT for 29th July-1st August and its still showing as cancelled.
That is the week I was wanting to book.

Thank you for that suggestion.
It fits in with the train starting at Crewe[presumably a single Voyager], as there will be no portion from Blackpool N. as you say.
And they couldn't diverted the Holyhead via Warrington because of Acton Grange.
Your suggestion makes sense.

Single line working is in operation between Crewe - Chester overnight for a few weeks.

Maybe they thought it easier to cancel the service instead of being potentially stuck behind a possession and a lot of stock leaving Chester at that time of the morning.

Holyhead trains uses different line to get to Crewe. There must be another reason VT is not running, 0448 Holyhead to Euston. Others are running as normal.

Which line do the Holyhead trains use?

VT usually divert between Chester and Crewe via Middlewich when there is a problem on the direct route.
It takes a fair bit longer.
The next Holyhead service (1R24, 0735 ex Chester) is running as normal.
Other TfW Chester-Crewe services are running normally (0551, 0645).
1V90 is running (0425 Holyhead-Cardiff) so it's possible to reach the 0718 (Manchester-) Crewe-Euston for the earliest arrival (0853), or wait for 1R24 (arr 0939)

Yes - thank you.
Its just its nicer to settle-down on a through service rather than having to change at Chester and Crewe;)
First-world problem, really.

Your suggestion, coupled with The Planner's @#2, seems to make most sense, as the train arrives in Euston at 0834, and comes back to Holyhead at 0910, so there's not much leeway for a later arrival.
