There's an EMT train timetabled to leave Manchester going to Sheffield on Saturdays at around 20:40.

This is a regular service in the timetable, yet all the journey planners tomorrow seem to show this train missing, with just the TPE's either side.

Does anyone know whether this train is running tomorrow ? If not, why.

No doubt they thought that it’d be a laugh not having it given the lack of Northern services about too.

It'll be cancelled because of the Northern Rail strike

Thanks for the answers.

Just when I think this lousy farce of a railway can't screw up my day any more, it manages to surprise me.

It would be interesting to know what their reasoning actually is, given that they're not Northern Rail.
If the train were cancelled due to industrial action I would expect both to see it in the data feed as a planned cancellation and for it to appear on EMT timetable changes publicity. As it is neither, this implies that the train was never planned to run (or it has been hard deleted for some very unusual reason).

Regardless, the idea EMT would cancel a train just because of industrial action at another TOC is somewhat fanciful. Why this train, and none of the others during the day? I'm not convinced.

I find it strange too.

It's in the timetable and I've been catching it regularly over the last three years or so, and it's generally quite reliable.

I'm surprised that it can just be omitted in this way and not show up as a cancellation. It seems very fishy.

It's not as if its an empty train either. I dread to think what the following TPE will be like.

There is nothing on the EMT website mentioning that this train won't run, let alone any explanation.

National Rail Enquries claims there are no alterations on EMT today, however the EMT website states there are alterations and has an amended timetable, but there is no mention of this service or any other amendments on their Liverpool route.

I don't think we will ever have a railway where passengers can find out exactly what alterations are taking place and what changes have been made to the timetable. The train companies don't want to provide that information, and no-one can make them do it.

If there is anyone reading this who works for EMT, please can you tell someone your train's missing and ask them what's going on.

Cheers

Have they re-allocated the coaches to trains between Nottingham and Norwich for the football fixture?

It is possibly a "glitch" in the system and the train hasn't loaded correctly.
I think this is a good point. I would expect it to show as a planned cancellation if EMT planning had altered the stock working so it just wasn't running at all.

EMT confirm on twitter that this train is running today. They appear to be saying this is a data glitch.

The crew and units are allocated to 1L18, however it isn't in the system (even for staff).

I do believe you, however I can't seem to find this information on their twitter page for some reason !

I'm delighted to report that this train has now turned up on NRE.

Hurrah.

I am glad somebody finally told EMT about it so they could get it sorted.

Rather than the almost 20 posts of wild speculation, conspiracy theories, general comments about this being the downfall of UK railways and answers that plain make no sense, when the simple answer is that as long as humans are involved in the railways, mistakes may happen, so give EMT a chance first

It's showing as a STP service for some reason so perhaps wasn't uploaded as soon as the regular service was deleted. The Sheffield to Nottingham departure times are slightly different to the times in the EMT booklet, don't know why that is.

The schedule is there but seemingly buried somewhere as Post 11 shows. It has perhaps, been entered as an STP today due to Train Planning staff not being in and could be expected to attend to permanently on Monday.
