No doubt many of us will be riding over routes we have never before traversed in this year?
Reading - Hayes & Harlington (Just need Reading - Swindon to compelete GWML in full)
Windsor & Eton Central branch
Seer Green & Jordans - High Wycombe (Just need High Wycombe - Banbury/Oxford to complete Chiltern Railways)
Virginia Water to Byfleet & New Haw, on a 444
Not many left for me now. and most of the remaining ones are either pretty dull, or very difficult to do because of a sparse service.
But, on this year's ALR, I should probably be adding:
Birmingham New Street to Lichfield, and to Rugeley
Nuneaton to Leamington Spa
THe Stansted Airport avoiding line
Crewe to Manchester Piccadilly via the Airport
Marks Tey to Sudbury
The bit between the two Yeovils
I managed to do that one when The Beast from The East hit a couple of years back, and there was a diversion. Then we got stuck at Westbury.
Wish i'd done it on a diverted HST
sadly wasnt a HST. Exeter to Waterloo service. Point failure meant we got stuck short of Templecombe. Reversed back to Yeovil JUnction. Onto Pen Mill, then service abandonned at Westbury.
Trying to get back to Weston-super-Mare, I joined a GWR service to Taunton. Stuck at Frome, point failure. Massive delay, then back to Westbury. Another massive delay, then it was announced we were heading to Bristol. Stuck outside Temple Meads for over an hour. No trains going anywhere. Stuck in Bristol for the night. Managed to get home after a 2 hour wait at Temple Meads the next day.
Not the best start to a 14 day ALR.
(Worth noting that I had already changed all my plans earlier that morning when Paddington was closed)
Word of advice kids: If a blizzard hits the country, get the hell home as fast as you can and try another day!
Kettering - Bedford
Midland Main Line completed. Can now trace an unbroken line all the way from Brighton to Thurso/Wick.
Just need Peterborough to Ely to complete EMR network.
Shotton - Wrexham Central
Wilmslow - Cheadle Hulme
The Manchester Airport avoider
I've not joined a track coverage thread in ages, hardly surprising my last new track in the UK was quite some time ago. However, I'm feeling jovial, so here's my latest lot in the last week:
- Redondo Beach-Norwalk (LA Metro Green Line)
- Downtown Long Beach-7th Street/Metro Center (and yes, the loop at that end of the line was done - LA Metro A Line, previously branded Blue Line)
- 7th Street/Metro Center-Downtown Santa Monica (LA Metro E Line, also referred to as Expo Line)
- Union Station-North Hollywood (LA Metro Red Line)
- Union Station-Wilshire/Western (LA Metro Purple Line)
- LA Union Station-San Bernardino Downtown (Metrolink)
- LA Union Station-Lancaster (Metrolink)
Stone to Little Bridgeford Junction
London St Pancras-Nottingham
Banbury-Birmingham Moor Street
Bulwell - Kirkby in Ashfield
Whitwell - Worksop
It is noted that I have already covered the Kirkby in Ashfield - Whitwell section, plus the left hand side of the triangle onto the ex Manchester, Sheffield, & Lincolnshire (Great Central) on the Midland and Great Central HST rail tour back in May 2016.
Today I did Finsbury Park to East Croydon so therefore clearing the southbound tunnel between Belle Isle Junction to Canal Tunnel Junction,
I also finally cleared Streatham to Tooting. I did Wimbledon to Tooting back in November 1988 so it has taken me a while to get round to completing that line.
today I did Hazel Grove to Buxton. then made my way by bus to Rose Hill to get a train to Manchester Piccadilly thereby clearing Rose Hill Marple to Marple Wharf Junction then Romiley Junction to Guide Bridge West Junction.
