3 car Chiltern 165s

Hi all!

Does anyone know if there are any specific diagrams for the 3 coach Chiltern 165s? If there is then please could someone post them? I'm looking more specifically at ones getting to Banbury as I don't think any get to Leamington apart from in times of disruption but diagrams for other areas of the Chiltern network would be equally helpful.

Most likely to be stopping services out of Marylebone.

I think the Bicester/Banburys would yield more 3 car services. But some services are worked by 172s

Slightly unrelated, but when was the last time a 165 appeared at Birmingham Snow Hill? It isn't a regular occurrence and I've only seen it happen once.

I don't know the last time a 3 coach one appeared but 1G01 05:46 Bicester North-Birmingham Snow Hell and 2L22 07:19 Birmingham Snow Hell-Leamington Spa are booked as a 2 coach 165. The unit that works these then goes on to work the Leamington to Birmingham shuttle for the day.

Thanks for clearing that up. The only time I saw this was in May 2014, a three car unit on a Snow Hill- Marylebone trip.

Up until 3 or 4 years ago there was a regular booked 3-car 165 working to Snow Hill in the mornings. It ran from High Wycombe at 06.10 and even had a booked stop at Olton. The unit then ran back ECS to Leamington to form a service for Stratford.

Those were an educated guess based on Flickr, and GW sets.
The rule of thumb for the GW side, if its a mainline diagram it's atleast 3 cars andbranch lines generally have 2 cars, but there are exceptions eg: 1533 off Twyford (weekdays only) is booked a 2 car 165.

My advice is to bend your rules, and go to Marylebone and see which trains are 3 cars. I take it you need to clear a bunch of 3 car 165/0s

Cactus - Ah, OK. Good to know with the GWR ones. I'm certainly not going to bend/break my rules for Marylebone though! Possibly a trip to Aylesbury to get the units/shacks in the area. Yep, I do need a bunch of 3 car ones.

No problem. I forgot to say those are weekday workings only, and would account for no more than half the 3-car 165 workings, as Marylebone & Banbury depots have a fair number of 165 workings too.

Also if you get to MYB on a weekday for the 0817 departure then wait until the 0922 arrival you will see 9 of the 10 working the 10th one arrives at 1022. The 11th is the AYS main unit.

165039 was the unit stabled in the bay today, to work the 1H63 - must go to the depot sidings after the resignalling

165s and 172s are staying in Blue. 165s are currently going through Wolverton having door refurbs and a DDA compliant toilet fitted and are coming out still in blue but with chiltern website decals and db logos on the livery. No other changes to the livery are planned

Silver is the "Mainline" livery, whereas Blue is the "Commuter" version. From a passenger point of view, the former means the train has tables, power sockets and Wi-Fi, which the 165s and 172s don't.

With the different liveries, Chiltern can put remarks like "Mainline 'Hybrid' - Wi-Fi and power sockets in silver carriages only" (or words to that effect) into CIS to guide passengers when a train incorporates one or more 168s and a 172 in the formation.

The above info about Chiltern 165s is correct, but to add a tiny bit more detail, as well as a repaint (in blue), door refurb and DDA toilet fitment, they are getting replacement (larger) handrails in the door vestibules and a few extra grab handles/poles elsewhere. The only 3-car unit so treated to date is 165036. 2-car units 165016, 018 & 026 have also been done.
