Was on the weekend 37's trip to Fort William, but was in the dining part, on way back was 2nd coach from engines, It was surreal to be eating breakfast on train sat in platform, it was a hell fire thrash all the way back overnight, especially once on the main line from Carlisle, we got diverted via Larkfield curve and GSW, due to power failure at Motherwell box, once beyond Carlisle we stormed it, full thrash, with highlight being Carlisle-Preston in 76 mins.

Some interesting moves on there - 47851 might turn up on the NENTA charter next month. Its due to head to Skipton via York and Keighley. Usually the Class47.co.uk forum has details of whats allocated as cranks working for WCRC usually try to get 2 x 47 on it.

Quality weekend away. First port of call was Manchester with a hit list of things to bag. My last 142 was top of the list followed by getting some trams in. Idiotic me had forgotten to check the Metrolink website and it turned out half the network was shut, 50% fleet use and all single trams. Resigned myself to a lack of winners on that front and decided using "the gen" to get some other heavy rail stuff. Primary concentrations being getting some more pendos ticked as well as making inroads into the Northern 319s.

Worked out a selection of moves and made some good inroads into the fleet. Typically after 2 years at university in Sheffield missing 142041, the day I come to Manchester looking for it, it's floating about Sheffield! No bother, I'll get it later! In the meantime I trundled back and forth to Stockport and Manchester Oxford Road, getting a 175, 4x 390s and 2x 319s in the process.
A leap to Mauldeth Road was extended by late running and missed +2s through to East Didsbury to bag a third 319 for the day. I thought that should have been it but ATW chucked out a 150 vice 175 and consequently 150260 was an additional winner for the day.

Now for a move over to Sheffield. Initial plans being 3 hours at a beer festival but that was cut short by 45 minutes as a trip to Meadowhall was required! 142041 was my cart back to Sheffield and celebrations were in order (nicely timed beer festival or what?!) as 142041 was my last Northern DMU required for haulage. Only about 12x 319s to get to clear the current fleet! The hours passed quickly and dud 222023 through to Derby for the hotel for the night.

Nothing much to be said about 37800 and 37884. They were both required and a good day all in all! Some required passenger and freight track around and about the Worcester/Wales area as well as a couple of cheeky curves near Birmingham! The quail level track took a battering too  Whilst clearing the 2 wetherspoons in Worcester, a micro grice from Foregate Street to Shrub Hill bagged me a required unit and curve! Storming run up the Lickey and on back to Derby.

Bit of a fester at Derby (pub move obviously) before 222011+012 took me to Sheffield. Bail across for TPE to Doncaster. I had booked on 1N35 2353 ex doncaster but the ECML was in chaos so everything was making additional calls. Cue 43206+315 on 1N34 as far as York where a set swap took place for 91105 through to Darlington. The train arrived at 0045 56L but I arrived 45 ahead of my original plan!

Good weekend!

How on Earth did I not know about two massive 37s coming to my home turf?! Need both of those for sight as well as haulage, I'm proper gutted about that as I'd have gone to at least see them!

A good weekend indeed for you, well done on clearing the Northern DMU fleet!

Shoddy by Tech ;) 37800 last worked a passenger train in 1997 and 884 last in Aug 2000 so both reasonably rare :P

You may not have got a ticket as the charter was booked out in a couple of days. Would it annoy you further if I said it was only 59 quid to travel

A great few trips there! The tractor one certainly did a good mileage run too!

Tech - The tractor tour was operated by Rail operations group. Also, I'm guessing you know that it went through Hereford? ;)

ROG as said by FQ. 369 mile charter if done throughout. 37s led all day on this route:

Derby - Leicester - Nuneaton - Birmingham NS - Galton Curve - Kidderminster - Worcester FS - Hereford - Maindee Curve - STJ - Gloucester - Worcester SH (Break)
Worcester SH - Lickey - Landor Street Curve - Sutton Park - Walsall - Bescot - Soho - Birmingham NS - Nuneaton - Leicester - Derby

If you like that sort of thing, pair of 31s (one of them a yellow one) 29 Dec Kings Cross - Mid Norfolk Railway is ROGs next tour
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
By the way Tech, part fares were "officially" a no go as the train was full from Birmingham however there were a few leapers

Sounds like a monster weekend away! Couldn't help but notice though that you were on 1F62 with me between York and Leeds (I'd been on since Newcastle), though I was basically passed out asleep in Coach A [emoji38]

I do wonder where abouts you were as I was sat in the accessible seat behind leading cab in coach A :o

Anyway, should be a bash on Thursday this week. Will either be another WYorks spoons venture or (more likely I suspect) a trip on the SSE with 45699 Galatea. That will be down the the folks with me as I suspect they'll want to do the kettle more.

UKR to Drax and Hull on Saturday!

That looked like a good day out. Were the 37 in good fettle? Nice to see these two having a new lease of life.

Hopefully a pair of required 66s will be on that Hull/Drax tour :)

Depending where you are sat I might bump into you, just remember to bring ID ;)

37800 sounded good, 884 rather quiet in comparison. Even though it was against the stock, 800 could be heard.

Now to wait for ROG to chuck out 37608. Despite all the charters with DRS it did, I repetitively missed it! It's my last 37/6 so waiting patiently for it...

There best be a pair of winners! I'd planned to do a return part fare on the UKR Scarborough charter where I scored 66167. Annoying that dud 66150 was on the back!

Anywho, a pair of winner sheds will take me to 30 sheds for all time. Should squeeze another in on the beds before the end of the year as well :)

I'm guessing you are boarding from Doncaster to avoid the long drag down & up the ECML?

Couple of moves recently outside my usual work commute after the ROG 37 charter.

Thurs 27 Oct was booked for a spin on the Scarborough Spa for the final time this year. No more diesel legs as this final week was down for the traditional Yorkshire loop morning and evening with kettle throughout. Tonight was purely a social event for a few drinks with no winner track and (initially) no winner kettle either. 45699 'Galatea' failed on Wednesday morning and 45690 'Leander' appeared to handle our evening loop on the Thursday. At least that was a cheeky kettle scoop! Nothing else to report here!

Saturday 29 Oct was the day for UK Railtours' "Humber Vogue" charter. Other members have already explained much about this elsewhere so I won't go into too much detail. 91110 down to Doncaster and I was a little disappointed with dud 66030 but there was winner 66168 on the rear to notch up my shed count by 1. The Hull Docks branch itself was dud but the line down to Kingston Coal Terminal was required as was the shuffle through Hedon Road Sidings in both directions!
Onto Goole running late to source some lunch before continuing through to Sudforth Lane to reverse. Required x/over and (some of the) loop here before the entirely required Drax branch. The FGD internal branch as well as the power station loop were done. Final winner x/over coming off the line and that was it for the day! 221120 back home after a few drinks in a raucous Donny!

Thurs 3 Nov was the time to return to the bashing of the spoons in W.Yorks! 158754 (dud as NT DMUs clear) through from York to Halifax. It struggled a hell of a lot at Micklefield with adhesion issues.
Two spoons cleared in Halifax and a bumper Jalfrezi at spoons #1. As I had to get back to the north east at a decent time it was only 2.5hrs there before heading home. Highest mileage 144 (016) to Leeds, quick change onto dud for 100 185129 to York. Speedy pint in the Tap before heading home with dud for 100 185110.

Sat 5 Nov was a day I was really looking forward to. After about 11 consecutive Fridays in Jan-Mar time on the Cumbrian coast, I hadn't actually had a full day there since. I'd only managed about 4 brief bashes in the time between...

- (Apr) 425 Carlisle-Maryport
- (Jul) 409 Carlisle-Corkickle / 423 Corkickle - Carlisle
- (Sep) 409 Maryport-Carlisle
- (Oct) 403 Carlisle-Dalston

Hardly mileage moves (especially in the case of 403...) but today was to change that! 91128 taken up to 950miles on the way to York before 158754 (again) was cleared for 100miles on the stagger through to Preston. 55mins here to dash into town and clear off the two local spoons. Nice fill in move there.
Sub-100mile (and now cleared) 185131 through to Basra-in-Furness for a short tea break. Now onto the main event with 255miles of 37425 ahead. No real time lost on the 1.5 round trips of the coast and into Carlisle at the end of the day around 8.45pm. That machine on 720mile all time now. My primary target being to clear all the /4s for 1000 miles. 4 done so far, 401 and 425 next in line to surpass it!
Dud for 100 156451 paired with winner (and now clear) for 100 142086 through to Metrocentre for a night at grandparents house there.

Sun 6 Nov was simply the homeward move. 142084 taken from Dunston to Newcastle for a quick change onto 91124 back to Darlington. This being cleared for 500 miles in the process. Nice surprise at Darlington with 56096 under the roof with Railvac2 waiting a path north under the roof. Nice bit of gridding away with added roof thrash to finish the weekend!

Sum total of my quest to clear the /4s below, long way to go! Only for reference now as I'm back over in a fortnight!

37401 - 874.88mi
37402 - 80.55mi
37403 - 4.36mi
37405 - 1110.44mi
37407 - 0.00
37409 - 1514.28mi
37418 - 199.24mi
37419 - 1086.40mi
37421 - 0.00
37422 - 85.73mi
37423 - 1275.20mi
37424 - 0.00
37425 - 721.34mi

This week should see a spoons bash to scratch off Ilkley and maybe Shipley as well. Might save the latter for when I do Bingley too!
End of the week is a trip to London for a 1S25 bash to Dundee. Probably the last time with FL 90s! Then two days of track clearing and spoons bashing round Glasgow!

Good work with the 37/4s, potential to get more at some point too...

Wow there are some decent mileages on those 37s! I'm pleased as punch I have more mileage off both 37402 and 37403 than you :D Short-lived perhaps, but I'm enjoying my time on the throne

403 doesn't bother me particularly at present haha. Only leapt to Dalston to break out the pen when I was on the way north on the landcruise at the end of September. It'll turn up eventually but it is a bit cr*p... 409 and 425 are much better!

402 on the other hand is a major bug... The amount of times that's failed and bowled me out or dropped off the day before is unbelievable! It's even forced me to suffer a coast length bash on a thunderbounce!

But, like I said, this shall change ;) One definite day and one additional possible day to come over there before the year's out ;)

Very very jealous of you getting more 37 mileage in the final few weeks of the year! I disagree with you on 37403, I thought it was quite a beast when I had it on 18th October. Crikey that feels like months ago...37402 has never failed on me and always been an absolute beast! 409's good, but it's no 402...

Well I'm back after another lengthy interlude of not getting into the swing of posting regularly! Oops!

Anyway last year ended well. The quest for 1000 miles club (principally based on clearing the 37/4s) has now got the 91s involved as well. 25 of the class past 500 miles now and at least 6 into the 800s! Only 91126 occupies the 1000 club at present though.
37s are looking better with 37401 passing 1000 and therefore joins 37405/409/419/423 plus a couple of /6s.

In other news, 2016 ended nicely on a smidge over 40000 miles. 3 winning locos (20137 37215 47376) and a winning kettle (7820) rounded off the year nicely at the excellent Glos-Warks Xmas Gala.

Onto this year. I don't think I'll do quite as well mileage wise but there's lots of railtours and things already in planning!

On 700 miles for this year so far. Commuting and a BLS bash round Scunthorpe steelworks completed so far. Nothing exciting on the commute yet!
The scunthorpe bash didn't yeald a winner but acres of new track and some thought never to have been covered before. My coverage map will be looking a lot better soon!

Next is a full day's unit bash in London on Saturday 14th. I'm expecting minimum 50 winners!

Looked like a good year. You must be pleased at the way it's gone with 37s over the last few years, who'd have thought it this time five years ago?
What railtours are you thinking of doing this year?

I might see you on the Waste Train :)

Hopefully the Spring Highlander tour doesn't run into issues with a broken down freight train again ;)

Would have done the Mersey Weaver but saving some cash for now!

Well I blinking well hope so, last time was the longest endurance bash I've done! This one will be similar but Inverness/Kyle/Aberdeen from Eastleigh.
Looking forward to the ECML run north though, give the home town a good wave! :)
