I saw in another thread a class 377/5 has entered a refresh programme

Is this identical to the Southern refresh do we know? Ie carpets replacing lino in the vestibules, new sky blue graffiti resistant side panelling replaced carpets and 'astro turf' upholstery and repainted stanchions and hand grabs?

I am interested because I believe it ia not known where these units are to head. If Great northern perhaps they will receive a refurbishment similar to the 365s....lino in the saloons? A livery change?

They're going to Southern aren't they? It's the 387s going to GN.

I thought the 387's were going to GWR and the 377/2's and 377/5's to GN? There is no need for them at Southern as the only route that requires a pantograph is the Milton Keynes Route which already has 377/7's.

Do keep up at the back!

In seriousness, the situation seems to be changing all the time at the moment, and nobody can confirm any plans (although there is a lack of denial, which I'll take as a confirmation!)

And just because they are dual voltage capable, doesn't mean that they have to work dual voltage routes.

Great Northern was only ever down to receive 19 of the 23 377/5s. None of the 377/2s, which will instead return to Southern to allow eight-car formations on the Milton Keynes route. This allows the five-car 377/7s to form more ten-car trains on the Southern metro route.

3 x 387/1s at Hornsey for training (as reported in the 387 thread) is reasonably good evidence that it is now happening; and of course GWR getting all new 387/xs has been publicised in the specialist media such as Raiway Gazette.

Can you link to the thread?

I think it would be a good idea to see what colour scheme it comes out in before guessing where they're going next ;)

As "377/5" said in another thread, they are painted purple. When Southern start using them we kind of doubt they will be painted into southern colours straight away, due to the cost.

Maybe a purple hybrid of some kind!!

Vinyl is possible, but that is expensive too.

Southern will need more units from 2018 because Thameslink are no longer doing Tattenham Corner or Caterham services, as well as more 10 car trains and reduced use of 455s. We still assume 25x377/1s are still going to southeastern

It's more to do with the last I was informed (just 2 weeks ago) was that they weren't heading to SN. We shall see what 377501 looks like when it comes out, C6 work normally involves a Repaint of some kind...

If GTR asks the company that produced the new Thameslink/ logo nicely, I am sure it could get some stickers knocked up to chuck on the trains for fifty quid.

Might even get change.

Don't know why you think it would be so cheap - this is the railway you know, they'd have to be special approved stickers and just printing the paperwork for them is likely to cost more than £50... ;)

Or just pay some kids to use some spray paint, asking them nicely not to cover the windows and lights. Won't need approval, as it will be classed as graffiti.

Only thing is nobody will rush to remove it.

unless they are going to southeastern, i cant see where else they will be going. if 377501 is at selhurst, repaints cannot be carried out there.

PTSO or platform depending on the weather

If Selhurst can't do repaints why is a C6 being done there?

Maybe the 377/5's will emerge in Southern livery and start to replace 455's which are now 33-34 years old...?

I can't remember now but when the 377/5's were built, weren't they earmarked for Southern, painted in Southern colours but then vinyled over when they were sent to FCC?

Nah they were painted purple with pink doors... the FCC vinyl was added after.

maybe they are just being vinyled or the repainiting will happen elsewhere.

the 3x 377/2s in FCC livery are vinyled over southern livery

However Selhurst has NO painting facilities at present so people need to clam down. They are staying purple for now.

Remember when Southerns 377s had their C6 at selhurst they just got patched up with the odd bit if hand painting here and there. The 1s and 3s are starting to fade again now.

Does this look any different than the 377/5s in the full FCC livery? I've never noticed

You can notice where its been applied over the SN paint job. Especially at the ends of the coaches where the green 'blobs' are.

As proven by the 455s when they were repainted in Eastleigh, and the 170>171 which have apparently been refurbished in Selhurst but painted at Wolverton.

Anyway, question now answered as above by Class377/5.
