Nice little post-work spin there, I do like the 707s but then I've only ever done tiny leaps on them. As far as the Littlehamptons go, I think it's normally 8 cars which either go all the way or split off a Brighton or whatever at Haywards Heath/Horsham. They're very busy trains in the peaks so there are some 12 car 377s all the way through. Think the ones via the West Coastway are usually 8 car and via Horsham 12 car

Hi all not done a report for a good while now been having spins round london but nothing i felt like doing a report on but gonna try get back into it again.

Due to the hot weather and not working today i decide to arm myself with a travelcard and have a float about and see if i could one of my main requirements north of the river the lnwr 350s down think i was needing about 17 at the start of the day so still a few to get.

Also i planned to catch as many freight workings as i could to try get my last few freightliner and dbc cargos ticked of so i started off with dud 378229 from kilburn high road into euston observing 66561 on a freightliner one of my last few required so a good start otherwise also 37038 passed towing 90012 to crown point from crewe.

Being limited by the travelcard for journeys on 350s to harrow and wealdstone the only option was the half hourly tring services until the rush hour so i took dud 350251 up to harrow as theres only a ten minute roughly wait to intercept the southbound service, observing pullman liveried 67021 and 024 56303 and seeing ex fertis 56103 and 50008 still at the head of the barrington empties in wembley yard.

Once at harrow after crossing over to the other platform the southbound working was cancelled at the last minute the same thing happened a couple of times yesterday too surely they must of known a bit earlier that it wasn’t running anyway plan b was the southern service to sheperds bush didnt fancy a half hour wait to see if the next train was running or not so dud 377207 and winner 209 were taken for the slow crawl past wembley to sheperds bush were a stop at greggs for some food and cold drinks were well needed.

Anyway back into sheperds bush and decision made to get the next southern back to harrow as it was only 5 mins anyway so running a few minutes late as everything seemed to be today winner 377210 and dud 213 were taken back to harrow passing 66759 66425 86605 and 610 in the wembley area the strangest site though was 800308 just stopped at the ac/dc changeover point on the west london line not sure where it was headed but didn’t expect to see it there.

Once back at harrow it should only have been another short wait for the next 350 south but this was also cancelled at the last minute no luck at all today, so as the next southern was a few minutes behind i decided a whole new plan was needed so i went for another spin to sheperds bush hoping that the next service might be a 377/7 as my battery was seriously needing charge but winner 377203 leading dud 205 turned up for another slow crawl but not to worry as my plan was to get the central line to ealing broadway to try rope in my last 5 gwr 387/1s.

After alighting at sheperds bush for the last time i wont be doing that journey so many times again i took the central line to ealing broadway and waited for duds 387145 and 174 to take us into paddington getting the phone on charge and not fancying cramming onto another unit in the rush hour i decided to give these another run out to hayes and harlington, after reading some of keith jarrets threads i seen that logging units for over ten miles was something i was going to start doing so this would get these in the book at least been getting to many units in on short hops previously.

So a quick run out to hayes got us one of my last dbc 66s 66057 in acton yard also noting 66041 in there and passing 66127 on a hayes tarmac sidings to wembley yard service on the way, once at hayes i was planning intercepting the greenford shuttle but after recieving gen that my last 165/1s werent on it i took dud 387135 and 137 back to paddington.

Once back at paddington i decided to head back to euston to try my luck on the 350s again so taking the hammersmith and city line to euston square i made it there in good time, dud 350113 and 240 were up for another spin to harrow to see if the southbound turned up a winner hopefully ex dbc 66008 was observed crossing over the wcml at willesden junction.

The wait at harrow produced 66100 66565 and 66740 on freights before duds 350109 and 256 took us back to euston now i was severely limited with options to harrow and decided that get the next northbound service which was the same pair to try the next southbound so another run up to harrow produced 66546 and 547 726 and 740 on more freights mainly freightliners 4 gbrf 66s seen the day all dud even though still needing about half of them its always the same ones that turn up all the time.

Anyway once back at harrow a basic two minute wait produced dud 365262 for a run back to euston for 378256 back to kilburn high road.

Anyway not very succesful on the winners front 3x377/2s and no 387/1s or 350s but a couple of required freightliner 66s and a dbc one out a very small list was a little compensation.

I think im gonna have to come up with a new plan to get my last 350s to limited on the travelcard z1-6 is watford junction outwith the z1-9 also not sure if i read you can only make one journey or not.

One last thing whats the mileage from euston and harrow and wealdstone cause i have had all the lnwr 350s on that journeys so hopefully the ones i’ve had are for ten miles.

Enjoyable read there Mr 37, quite a productive day considering, the TOC formerly known as London Midland, kept cancelling on you.
Scoring stuff for sight when your down to the bones of a class is always puts a bit of a spring in your step. Can totally sympathise with the GB sheds, up here in the North East, it seems to be the same old week in, week out here too. However 66782 and 66783 were up here for a bit but I missed em with work.

Mileage between Euston and Harrow n Wealdstone is 11m 23ch, so your 350s are in that illustrious 10 mile club. See what youve started Mr Jarrett.;)

Get some cheap advance to Brum and do a West Midland Day Ranger. I'd imagine you'd rope in a fair few 350s between Stafford, Crewe n Brum.

You probably don't even need a West Midlands Day Ranger as you could get so much in the Birmingham area on a Daytripper to rope in 350s on the half hourly Liverpool services & 3 an hour to Euston.

Public price: £26.50 for the West Midlands Day Ranger, £6.70 for the DayTripper.

Bear in mind the DayTripper only covers you for the West Midlands area whereas the Day Ranger is for the wider area. But it depends what you want.

Ideally a couple of days up there would be ideal even going up to chase down 350s i reckon my head would be turned pretty quickly by all the other requirements needed up there.

That certainly looks excellent value for sure looking to have a good two three day trip somewhere next month which includes the drs open day at crewe so that looks like the ideal rover for that.

I'd say so, a cheap advance to either Stafford or Northampton and your rover kicks in. Plenty freight spots in amongst those boundaries.

Assuming that Mr 37 has a Railcard then an off-peak day return to Northampton isn't that expensive.

Your more than welcome, that's what it's about, everyone sharing a bit wisdom. I've learned a helluva lot from these guys off here myself. Glad to have helped.

I did a Heart of England between Christmas and New Year and thoroughly enjoyed it. Even though I’m Leicester based myself it pushed me into doing some more local stuff I usually ignore in favour of going further afield as well as newish areas to me such as Leamington / Banbury / Oxford etc (even scoring Kings Sutton shack!) Great value.

Had a little tour after taking a half day didn’t get much in early on haulage wise got my southern 377/2s down to one unit now and got 3 gbrf sheds and one of my last few dbc one’s in, had a bit of hassle with the oyster making multiple journeys ended up having to walk to clapham south from clapham junction to rectify it as they couldnt do anything at clapham junction.

Anyway as i think it was kite that had previously mentioned you need a travelcard for bashing units which i have done all the times i been out chasing units but used oyster yesterday and remembered the hassle it can cause so that will be the last time jumping round london with an oyster.

All the hassle had made me to decide to call it a day but after getting some very much appreciated gen from 37078xotTE on here that one of my last two gwr 165/1s was on the greenford branch i had to go get it.

So getting of at paddington the next train to west ealing after a gwr service so was pleased to see 387142 one of my last 387/1s paired up with dud 387145 as this one was annoying me as it was one of the lower numbered ones i never had.

So happily alighting at ealing broadway 4 more to get now shouldnt be too hard dud 345013 took us on the next stage to west ealing where walking down the platform 66063 one of my last dbc carg sheds passed on the late running morris cowley car train, whats the chances no db sheds all year then 3 in a couple of days.

Next sure as 165135 was sitting on the platform on a practically empty service to greenford i only think there was two other people on it, setting off was unsure what to do was toying with getting the same unit back but a look on rtt seen there was a good connection at south ruislip so could score the shack and hopefully a winner chiltern 165 so central line from greenford to there left me with about a 20 minutes wait for a gerrards cross - marylebone service.

I decided to have a quick look outside the station very nice area infact you could be forgiven for thinking you weren’t in london if it wasn’t for the countless takeaways on the street.

165027 turned up for the journey to take us back into london only have ten of these in the book this is another set of units i dont have much luck with, nevermind stopping only at sudbury harrow road and straight through wembley stadium noticing 68014 at the back of the depot realising this is a class i still haven’t sampled yet need to rectify that too.

All in all it turned into a quite successful evening.

    Good read again Mr Syphon,
Congrats clearing the GWR 165s, jealous as sin clicking a DB She'd. 66181 has been avoiding me for years now.
Shocked you ain't sampled a 68, did I read that right? I love em, you won't be disappointed, when you get the chance to get behind one.

    chasing locos

Hi everyone not done a report for a while but after getting access to info on locos i was after and having a few bonus days off work i decided to have a look to see how the gen was and what units i could get for haulage whilst on my endeavours.

So the day started at paddington where i boarded double duds 387135 and 136 nonetheless i was on a mission and passing one of my last required gwr 387’s 164 on the way outward i knew it probably wasn’t going to be my day with this particular fleet i havent had a winner one of these for a long time.

Anyway approaching acton yard i thought a class 345 was going to bowl me out but passing the only loco on the holding sidings was 66060 which was no use to me but reaching the end of the yard there it was 66105 glimpsed in between two wagons at the west end of the yard i know i would of seen it before when it was working as one the retb pool 66s on the far north line but never ever recorded it.

That took me down to 8 of the current dbc in the uk since i started recording them just over two years ago so once at ealing broadway the next working i was after the theale to hope cement working was delayed so of for a bit of was had macdonalds would have to do as nothing else seemed convienient.

Back on my the platform at ealing broadway and eventually making up time a little 66623 bill bolsover in its blue freightliner livery passed by but not before unexpectedly 66774 passed by heading west so three winner class 66s in a short space of time.

knowing nothing else was to be had in these parts double duds 387165 and 170 were taken to paddington noting 66087 and 59103 on freight trains now in the yard.

    to be continued

I understand your pain with the Sheds (I'm down to two GBRf, five Freightliner and five DB Cargo - one of which is currently stored at Toton, near where I live, but I can't see it!) and I know how illusive those last few can be. I hope you knocked a few more off your list on your day out and I look forward to reading part two.

    Chasing locos part

Carrying on from above after arriving at paddington my next target was in south east london at a certain crossrail site so the long walk to the tube took me on a hammersmith and city service to st pancras where a lengthy walk took me to the southbound thameslink platform.

Arriving on a gatwick service was winner 700102 first winner one of these for a while and a slow journey to london bridge held outside for a while was slightly annoying too but after navigating myself to platform 1 triple winners 465166 466013 and 466043 took me on the journey to abbey wood where hopefully on plumstead rail yard 66754 was going to be on view.

Unfortunately the certain loco was not about but after working on the project and knowing how it works there is a fair chance the loco was in the tunnels working.

    to be continued again.
