4-car LO 172

Today at around 12.15 i saw a 4-car LO 172 (172 005 on rear) running between Barking and East Ham UP.

I was curious as to where it was going/coming from, as pfms7&8 were both under possession at Barking.

Was it heading to Fenchurch Street, then back via Bow curve to Stratford?

empty stock working perahps, as can 4 carriage trains work along the GOBLIN route?

Was earlier problems on the GOBLIN due to the late finish of engineering work so id guess it was related to this. Perhaps these trains were stabled there until the works were complete.

LO stable units at east ham depot.

Yes LO cocked up stabling with the works, so was route conducted XEM-BKG via XHH, XOW, SRA, FOG and WGR.

The 4-car unit ran as 5J00 (VSTP),
East Ham - Gas Factory Loop (rev) - Bow Junction - Stratford - Forest Gate Junction - Woodgrange Park - Barking Platform 1.

Platforms 7&8 were blocked, this did not stop the booked (unamended) 5J01 actually leaving East Ham (east end), getting to 1 signal section before reaching the block. A hasty retreat was made, and some facilitating from c2c to assist with the unusual routing and provided a pilot for the route.

The oversight did cost LO some 16 cancellations this morning whilst they were short on units.
