Plenty of good news from 125 Group: https://www.125group.org.uk/mission-complete-well-almost/

125 Group is delighted to announce the acquisition of a further two MK3 HST trailers, one to join the permanent fleet and one as a spares donor. This brings our HST MK3 fleet to a permanent total of eight vehicles.

The make up of this is a TGS (44000), 3x TS (42111, 42119, 42337), 2x TF (41057 and 41067, which has a disabled toilet), plus 2x TRFB (40730 and 40741). This allows us flexibility in both extra catering capacity and redundancy of the restaurant/buffet vehicle itself. TS 42120 is anticipated to become the spares donor, but this could be subject to change based on full condition assessments.

Further to this, we have some more exciting news in that we can confirm purchase of HST power car 43044 from Porterbrook. The Trustees would like to extend their thanks to two particular long serving group members who have very generously funded the purchase of this power car – they are both highly dedicated to the cause and 125 Group owes them huge gratitude – thank you!

The purchase of 43044 will help us achieve one of our famous core objectives, to own a power car that is powered by the original Paxman Valenta Engine, with a Marston Cooler group. This will join our existing two VP185 power cars, allowing us to show a significant portion of the HST story, but not all of it quite yet – if you’re an MTU fan, you’ll need to wait a little longer!

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Porterbrook for again supporting us in our aims – there is no doubt we would not have succeeded without their generous support and help. We also extend thanks to our friends at East Midlands Railway for assisting us in the handover of 43044.

Some jolly good news I must say. :) The 125 Group are building up quite a nice little set of powercars now!

Not to be upstaged, 125 Group's 43048/089 have also had a run out today to collect the Group's additional trailers from Gascoigne Wood. Return was via the East Coast Main Line giving them a chance to stretch their legs in fine style. Nice little vid of them storming through Retford here: Helen Crossley on Twitter: "Thanks for the HST EMR 43048 & 43089 Toots!! @125Group #ReturnOfTheHST #class43 #SpottingFromHome #SpottingFromWork https://t.co/uTWA3x3huk" / Twitter
There looks like there are 8 coaches in that video. Were the 3 vehicles already at Leicester taken along for the ride to join the five collected from Gascoigne Wood?

In terms of MTU power cars, how about 43159 which seems to be forgotten about as the joint world record holder?

The 125Group have so far been extremely pragmatic in their purchases and will be far more concerned about the condition of the power car than any other characteristic it may have!

Yes, they went along for the ride. Probably easier than shunting things around at Leicester, and has the benefit of using the vehicles - always better if they're used.

Up to Porterbrook what happens with it - it's their vehicle.

Also 43159 has been sat around in the open for quite some time, so can't imagine that has done it any good!

Out of interest, was 43102 the front power car in the record run?

They could raise money to help get a fourth powercar, is 43044 still with EMR is it in store at moment unless moved.

43044 is still at Neville Hill. It was taken off lease last summer and it is now owned by 125 Group.

Were 048/089 being used on the DATS trains recently?

43089 has been used by DATS, 43048 hasn't so far that I know of.
Thanks mate.
Are they both still 'on loan' at Leicester for this use if required or have the 125 Group recalled them do you know please?

Wonderful news, I mean any positive news about HSTs is wonderful of course!

Be interesting to see what livery/liveries they repaint the trailers into.

Presumably these additional vehicles will be eventually stored at Ruddington on the GCR(N).....Will there be enough space there and what is happening about the building that they are planning to build?

I'm not intimately familiar with the braking curves of light power cars and short HST formations, but my first thought was they may have been for brake force and hence higher allowable speed on the outbound trip? Could be barking up completely the wrong tree.

Still in planning stages last I heard (lots of red tape involved in something like this) and the depot appeal is still running (not quite hit the 100K target yet)

I was held up at the level crossing by Attenborough station, around 12:30 today, and was surprised to see 43089/43048 pass at high speed. They were coming from the Nottingham direction on a rake of stock which included some locos (think one was a class 90), but I failed to identify anything but the power cars.

Sounds like the DATS test train - they have used 43089 previously as mentioned previously:

Yes, they ran Rectory Jct - Kettering - Bedford - Corby - Bedford - Kettering - Rectory Jct on the DATS test train.

48's debut on the test train, I believe. I would think it was the normal test rake with 90035 and 91122/128 in it with various Mark 3s - the setup is designed to mimic three pantograph operation of a 12-car Desiro at 110mph.
