I'm at work at the moment and will hopefully get out of work on time, so I'll try to photograph this too. Will be keeping an eye on the move from Eastleigh; if that goes ahead then I think it's safe to assume it's on!

EDIT: Move from Eastleigh is on.

well that was a nice sight to see, quite appropriate a 73 should be on the front, and sort of appropriate in a sad way it was also raining :'(

5Y97 last night (17/6) at Hinton Admiral. Annoyingly, my camera lost focus half way through. If anyone knows which order the 442s were in, comment on the video and I'll pin your comment - thanks!

It's odd to see trains going for scrap that look almost brand new. How I long for the days of ropey-looking formations, multiple liveries, peeling paint, boarded up windows and "COND" painted on the side!

Inbound to BM, reversing at Branksome yesterday... Around half a dozen spotters around.

Can someone remind me which 442 unit has graffiti on one of its driving trailers, please?

Certainly doesn’t look like the seats are being swapped across (to the 458s). Photo from Allelys after delivering 442423 to its grave today. The damage to the windows caused by SIMS ‘shunting’ with a bulldozer.

Not many in the past had gone through pretty much a full refurb before being scrapped...

DRS have partially restored (and repainted) serveral locos, then scrapped them. 47709 was one.

I think anything that goes to a scrap yard is generally going to meet an unglamorous end. Still, I wish they were going to Raxstar rather than Sims Newport.

Did anyone actually manage to find a video of an AC442 under its own power during SPZ?

looks like i missed a couple of scrap runs, they seem to change time from afternoon runs one week to late night the next week so tend to miss thos

still think theres lots of souvenirs left they could sell of to enthusiasts...was there a company on ebay selling off train numbers they had cut out the sides

Let’s not forget the person selling off an entire Class 483 DM for £32k… :s

As has been mentioned on here numerous times, that won't happen - Sims are not interested in parts recovery, and they are the ones scrapping these.

Once the remaining two DC traction units have done their jobs as braking force for the moves, will they then be left behind at Wolverton for the same treatment, or is there a different process for scrapping these?

Yes it worked 5q81 through Leighton buzzard on time on Wednesday 23rd June 2021 at 0920 hours on the 0556 eastleigh to wolverton centre sidings with 66711 leading with 73141 charlotte then 442420 442411 and 732201 broadlands.
However worth off note this time around 442420 has also been left at wolverton.
So maybe 442420 has also now gone.
No longer as the barriers in recent weeks.

Gives me memories of withdrawn 50's in convoy behind a 47 or similar heading north from Laira through Worcestershire with nameplates removed and on window out of each cab removed for a continuous brake pipe...

Just five 442s left at BM. 2413 on the south side of the depot, 2415 and 2422 by Nelson Road, with 2414 and 2418 in the two dead-end sidings at the west end of the depot.

Will these get moved soon or maybe a little longer due to the amount off recovery work and parts stripping wolverton is going.
