Managed to catch 2416 passing Swaythling. To my complete surprise I also spotted BoB dragging a slammer (1497?) back in a Southerly direction. Probably the last time we'll see a 442 passing a Slammer under its own power :(

Someone I came across at Swaythling mentioned something about the 442s possibly being reinstated because of a (possibly new) half hourly service to Weymouth? Can anyone shed some light on that?

All I'm going to say to the 2tph is there isn't enough stock for a 444 to Portsmouth off peak AND the Weymouth 2tph.

Whether they return is all dependant on how SWT diagram the units with their turnaround time, but the 442s returning...well, is unlikely.

Is it 2tph from Waterloo?

Correct.

Think the service pattern will be something like;

London - Woking - Winchester - Southampton Airport - Southampton Ctl - Brockenhurst - Bournemouth - Poole - Hamworthy - Wareham - Dorchester Sth - Weymouth
London - Clapham - Basingstoke - Winchester - Soton Airport - Soton Ctl - Totton - Brockenhurst - New Milton - Christchurch - Bournemouth - Branksome - Parkstone - Poole - Hamworthy - Wareham - all stations to Weymouth

Then the xx39 to Soton is extended to either Poole or Wareham, calling pretty much all stations.

It will be stopping at Ashurst New Forest, yes, I believe they're retaining the current service pattern north of Southampton (the xx39 deps Soton going north at x55) so you could change to the xx00 which overtakes the xx55 at Eastleigh.

Have just had some photos of 2416 at Bomo Depot and Branksome drop in my inbox so they will be going on the site at some point over this weekend. I will of course update the 442 whose out page as well. Apparently Southern have asked Network Rail for training Paths between Brighton & Havant.

Nice shot there Richard. Although I never managed to see anyof them. I will possibly be taking a walk down to the Depot area next Friday when I am at Eastleigh.
