Passing through Clapham junction around 17:50 last night, i saw a 456 leading a 455 and another 456 {455 the meat in the sandwich}
Interesting to me anyway :D

It's certainly not rare...

Normally a 455+456 though. 456 at country end.

No its not true, the train I used to take to school from Forest Hill to Norwood Junction almost always had the 455 leading and one 456 on the back. I've seen a unit comprised of a 455, 456, 455 and another 456. Which went through Clapham around 12pm. Also, the train home I took after I saw the Peds at London Bridge was a colourful consist - Southern 455, Connex 456 and a NSE 456.

I know there is no fixed rule - its just how Selhurst normally couple em up!
