at 16:57 I saw a maroon unidentified 47 go through Manchester Victoria (towards Miles Platting) on a long rake of NR (yellow) low-ballast hoppers. It was definately notched up as it "thrashed" through Vic. It was a real surprise - totally unexpected.

Any more info on it please reply....?

Ta,
James.

Freightliner have 47358 and 47150 in use only at the moment, 47303 and 47197 restricted use at Bashford Hall, 47358 at Southampton and 47150 Crewe and neither are in burgendy so it is 47854, and odd working for it though I must admitt

47811 is green (old FGW colours i believe). Ive emailed Shaun C from Sulzer Power about it, but as yet not got a reply.
It was a very rare working indeed, and 47854 is supposedly at Carnforth apparently. Though I thought it wasnt 854 when I saw it, as i never noticed a black stripe - though admittedly the lighting conditions at Man Vic are poor. But if it is 854, what on earth is a West Coast railways 47 doing on a ballast train?

I wish I'd had my camera now, though the speed it was going, and the way I only saw a bit of the loco it'd have been a poor shot.

Surely the dark plain green of 47811 could have looked like maroon as you say the lighting is pretty rubbish at Manchester Victoria.
