Earlier today I saw 47771 at Southampton Maritime Freightliner depot. It appears to have a temporary through brake pipe going in through one cab window and out through the cab window at the opposite end. Anyone know what it is doing there and where it is going from / to?

I saw mention of it by a chance visit to the Class 47 Preservation Project website, the loco was badly vandalised at Colne Valley some time back and I assume they have been trying to raise cash for the full preservation to go ahead

http://www.halsteadgazette.co.uk/news/15168913.120_tonne_train_takes_trip_down_High_Street/

AN UNUSUAL load took a trip down Halstead High Street this afternoon.

A 120 tonne train caused slight disruptions as it was manoeuvred through the centre of town.

The Class 47 Locomotive number 47771 is privately owned by the Class 47 Reservation Project, and is own its way to Eastleigh in Hampshire where it is set to be put back into working order.

The Class 47 is 63.5 feet long, and together with the lorry weighs almost 200 tonnes.

The trains journey was given a police escort from Colne Valley Railway to Eastleigh.

With a name like Class 47 Reservation Project it would be nice to think this will be restored to its RES guise. However I suspect there was a P missing from the original post!
