Green on Western and Southern, Maroon on the WCML. Black for freight locomotives.

Would certainly suit the Victorian infrastructure our railways operate on.

What's wrong with operators trying to brighten things up a bit? GBRf are the masters of a good livery and its nice to see Freightliner getting involved as well.

It's not the first one Freightliner has done, there was the 2 tone green Shanks one and a blue Aggregate Industries one.

It is time HMG told railway companies to have standard liveries with only modest branding.

Surely maroon on the Western??? Think of all those red Warships and Westerns..........And weren't the two gas turbines black & silver?

What on earth are you talking about? I detest this kind of silly nostalgia based nonsense harking back to a pretend better age. Because trains were painted red in a particular area in 1860 means they should always be red in that area? Preposterous twaddle.

The owners of the trains can paint them any colour they like.

They tell them what services to run and the rolling stock they can have, colour is a modest matter.

could you set out below which part of "HMG" instruct Freightliner which services to run and which rolling stock they use?

do you think I could see it pass by?

Yes - from space: it is that bright!

66587 has been repainted in Ocean Network Express colours and named 'AS ONE WE CAN'. Certainly not one for the livery purists.

Cant wait to see this one running with an orange one!

Scotland seems to have managed to specify the Scotrail livery, though I grant you that isn't wholly similar. Freightliner does get permission to run trains from the centre in the form of allocation of paths, but does have more freedom than the TOCs. I know these fora find slightly tongue in cheek difficult to grasp, but goodness that pink (and that yellow) will need a good deal of cleaning to look good and it will will never look dignified!

DoI I'm 64 and often wear a fleece that colour. I understand what lack of dignity means.

I suspect a few posters on here don't understand the concept and importance of marketing in the 21st century!

Is ONE a new-ish company/newly operating with Freightliner because I've only recently started seeing their fluorescent pink containers on the trains in the past few months or so?

Is it not a recent joint venture between several Japenese shipping lines? I remember reading about it in a trade mag.

Edit - sorry @CosherB has linked to wiki.

It certainly stands out, and I think it's a clever piece of advertising/marketing as you are most definitely going to notice that colour scheme! And, if it garners more freight on the rail, good on them! I'm all for advocating more freight by rail.
One (pardon the pun) thing though, look closely at the photo of the op's photo. it's the partnership of G&W ONE,, Mrs Doyle of Father Ted ,,"GW-ONE GW-ONE!!" Therefore 66 587 will be nicknamed Mrs Doyle!

That is why I read the article - the colour scheme stood out a mile! Seems they are the 6th biggest container shipping firm:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_largest_container_shipping_companies

(of the top 10 all can be seen regularly on WCML intermodal trains except perhaps PIL)
All of the 3 previous brands (k line, mol and NHK) were very bland so a good chance to make something more noticable in the way that Maersk's sky blue is.

The first pink ships are now starting to appear as well.

Given how long containers last it will be a while before the full level of pink containers is achieved.

So now we'll start seeing a heap of 12-year old girls become railfans?

Liking the colour pink doesnt make you a girl or a homosexual nor does being female predispose you to liking certain colours.

As I said I quite like the colour used and if it "triggers" silly "rail fans" so much the better!

Agreed, I love it!
(though being a homosexual I guess I don’t aid your point )

My niece likes it.
She’s only 11.
Oh gawd.
(Can just see myself, niece & her two brothers spending hours at Basingstoke station looking for a pink loco now)

I found this thread after seeing the loco passing through Manchester Oxford Road this afternoon, in charge of a container train from Trafford Park to Southampton.

It certainly turned a few heads amongst the throng waiting on the platform!
