My first days 'spotting' was when the 2 Castles visited Chester and I went around Chester 6A shed whilst they were coaling etc. besides spending almost 7 hours on Chester General station. My question is does anyone have details of what was 'on shed' at this moment as I have long lost my first notebook. Later ones are still treasured with visits to depots. Many thanks if anyone can help.

The family had moved from Somerset to The Wirral not long before this, and I was on Chester station that day as well seeing the Castles arrive and depart, having come down and back on the steam service from Birkenhead which ran through to Paddington, which was having its last day as well. As it was a Saturday and pretty much all of Chester's passenger services were dieselised by then, much of their allocation was probably there.

The Chester allocation then appears to be 22 Black 5, 5 8F, and 3 76xxx. I can't really recall any of the latter at Chester. The 2-6-4 tanks on the Birkenhead services seem to have been supplied entirely from the northern end by this time, but doubtless went on shed at Chester between services.

For what it's worth the official allocation was :

I don't have a Chester shed list, but if of any interest, I have a list of the locos I photographed in the Chester area on 4 March 1967.

Many thanks to both of you and yes would like details of loco's photographed in the area.
My first days spotting was very 'mixed up with several numbers that weren't in the then new edition of Ian Allan's loco shed book. The book was soon despatched to obscurity as I remember as I had B5 down as a number which is the DMU head code for Chester via Runcorn to Liverpool LS. On a visit to Chester later in June 1967 with 4472/ 4498 plus an AL4 on show in the platforms as part of Chester Arts week a visit to the then closed shed produced 47598 at the front of several withdrawn loco's which must have been the last Jinty on 6A and even photographed it with my dads Kodak 126 film camera.
To all that read this my first request is still valid if anyone can help.
