87002 - Euston - Liverpool 11/05/16

I saw 87002 pass MK this afternoon and discerned it was this working from Euston to Liverpool:

however the train seemed to be empty apart from a few bored looking stewards. I assumed this was a special for Chelsea fans ahead of their game tonight. Is this not the case?

Pretty sure it is the charter train. No other reason for a special to run today.

I think the final away game of the season, combined with Chelsea's current league position and the mathematical impossibility of them climbing any higher, all when the game is on the TV will have put a lot of people off travelling.

Add to that the late Arrival back in Euston at 1/4 to 3 in the morning and I am not surprised it is a very poorly used service.

It could have course been very different, a few results over the last month going different ways and this could have been a show down for a place in Europe. But as it is the game is pretty meaningless for Chelsea.

Pretty sure it was a charter train for West Coast Railways. It was in York on Tuesday on a return trip from London Kings Cross.

no that was a separate one - yesterday was a special for Liverpool v Chelsea.

Looks like it made a pass at WFJ on the return - did they either have no passenger or determine no-one wanted Watford Junction?
