Suppose there is a town with one barber (who is a man); and that every man in the town keeps himself clean-shaven: some by shaving themselves, some by attending the barber. It seems reasonable to imagine that the barber obeys the following rule: He shaves all (and only) those men who do not shave themselves.

Does the barber shave himself?

As to the barber shaving himself, logically yes, but no doubt it is incorrect as you could say which barber (one from another town?)

Sorry if this is old but:

Yes, he shaves himself.

He shaves all (and only) those men who do not shave themselves.

If he doesn't shave himself, he shaves himself as the barber, and if he doe's, well, he's just done it, hasnt he? :)

The answer is yes, he shaves himself.

The reason is that is is NOT reasonable to imagine that the barber obeys that rule because it shoud say 'He shaves all (and only) those men who do not shave themselves as well as shaving himself'

therwise the rule is not reasonable.

If the barber does not shave himself, he must abide by the rule and shave himself.
If he does shave himself, according to the rule he will not shave himself.

Well he would be stuck in a loop between shaving himslef as the Barber and shaving himself as the man..... wouldn't he?

It occurs to me that it does not state if the barber is actually a resident of the town in question. If he is not and only has premises in the town then he could be 7 foot tall with a big ginger beard as the rule would not apply. :happy4:
