Oh dear and I hear , on the radio, that Wherry Line delays today due to signalling problems.
Think there some issues with the phones on some of the crossings, so trains need to be cautioned, but once the bug is ironed out, all should be well, overall the whole of the NYL has been good.

Nothing to do with units just new signalling bugs. Telephones to crossings and points failed yesterday, these and more have gone today and signals are reverting to danger. On the plus side, the issues affecting Whittlingham Junction since last week where rectified yesterday afternoon. Theres still another block to go as the windy weather prevented the installation of the new bridge at Postwick.

It never rains...

Think the COA was loss of detection on the bridge, semaphore of course it would go unnoticed, but colour light will flick back, quite rightly !

First time doing Norwich - Sansted direct this week. What a revelation. Even after 2 hours the seats are still really comfortable. Carriages are so wide and airy and spacious, cope with the crowds really well. Very comfortable ride. No havign to change in Ely. 100% improvement.

My only issue is that weekday evenings there is large gap with no service, even if I'd taken the XC the next connecting service would have been the same GA. I think there's nothing direct at all from Stansted between 18:00 and 22:00, and no connection after 20:30? Hopefully this gets resolved in the next timetable. I'm sure paths are tight but nobody wants to be stuck landside at Stantsed.

Don't NR signalling teams test new installations?

October I think it was when they started testing on the workstations, during the day to start with, then as the weeks went by, rolled into 24/7, it was odd seeing trains occupy track circuits, yet in the old boxes they were still AB and no track indications ! However there is only so much testing they could do, there is always the last bits when the manual boxes close, and it is all swicthed on for the first time, that is when the final testing takes place, which was of course the block from early Feb, although still had trackwork to do as well, think they were also held up by Norfolk Council not allowing any work on Cantley crossing. There are always going to be problems after commissionng too, there is no way around that.

There were still telecom issues yesterday between Reedham and Great Yarmouth, with cautioning for four crossings via Berney Arms.

On my Tour de Anglia I travelled on 8 class 755 services, all on time or early apart from train above which was only a couple of minutes late into Yarmouth. Hopefully they are settling down now, passengers do seem to like them with many positive comments overheard yesterday.

755413 had issues (something about emergency alarms requiring a train reboot) at Ipswich this morning on the 06:54 Ipswich-Cambridge requiring a train reboot. Currently arriving into Cambridge about 20 mins late.

One of the crossings between Somerleyton and Oulton Broad also appears to be out for the count.

Talking about signalling..The Ely Station Crossing has been closed for nearly a year.
Does anyone know why the flashing red lights continue to flash 24/7 ?

Common sense prevailed then and it wasn't spun at Newmarket.

Because it's cheaper and easier than changing the signalling system.

Yup, especially when there couldn't be any replacement coaches supplied, and it's the rare train per day where there's loads of time to turn the train around and start running the return journey on time at Cambridge.

At least they've turned off the warning sounds for the level crossing. (Or appear to have as I've stopped hearing them when at Ely station.)

Go Manea! It's already had double the number of GA trains it had last week!!!
HAave you got an update on the overall availabilty and whilst not strictly for this thread how many 745 are now in traffic as the days of the hauled sets must be numbered.

That’s a fairing from a 745, I think this is the unit that hit a tree a couple of weeks ago maybe the correctly painted one was not available.

755405 was still on test runs as of Tuesday 3rd March 2020 at least , seen here in the evening at Lowestoft having arrived from Norwich.

I know this is tempting fate, but could the reduction in postings on this thread indicate that reliability is improving?

They seem to be better?

There are niggles, but they seem to be more minor.

I moved seat on a -3 this morning because the door to the engine compartment was stuck open and treating me to a terrible selection of rattles, the displays weren't working at all, the heater at my new seat was trying to cook the train, and the lights seemed to go off and on an awful lot when changing power...

... But at least it ran (an early of course).

Wow we've all lost interest

Oh I miss those 170's and 156's.......
Yep, after all the fuss and drama the 755s came in thick and fast and seem to be settling down.
The 170s were ok. The rest of the legacy fleet was pretty dreadful. The 755s are such a massive improvement, not only from a passenger experience, but also by making things like Norwich - Stansted possible.
Now, if only they could turn down the volume on the door Sounders, actually hurts my ears waiting to get off.

Alas, this seems to be part of PRM rules. Some other units that use the same sounders actually had them turned up, as if they weren't bad enough already.

Best thing you can do is complain directly with GA. Here in the Netherlands there have been similar complaints and eventually the TOCs took action and adjusted the volume.

They are ridiculously loud. The other day I was sat in my car at the level crossing in Attleborough and could hear them clearly from a train on the opposite platform, had my windows wound up and everything.

I think that the lack of posts really is a reflection of where they're at- they're in service, they're performing OK and there's little to say.

They're performing great, and they're a 1000% improvement on what we had before.

And unlike what happened with the Sleeper, we got bored complaining about the niggles quite quickly!

On one just now. Three cheers for the guard that deposited the weirdo that was harassing women at... Kennet :D
