Stafford was under a different Train/Freight Operating Company, Not NYMR.
Indeed, however at least one individual involved was a long time NYMR driver.
The Stafford incident was worrying on many levels, including the individuals concerned being directors of the TOC and therefore writing their own rules.

It would appear that 'members' of the NYMR were taking locomotives for which they were not competent over Network Rail main lines in this latest incident.

This is not conjecture, the RAIB have said as much.

The parallels between this incident, and the Stafford SPAD in which the NYMR was also mentioned are therefore very relevant. It would appear the railway have some issues over competency compliance that needs looking at in detail.

The incidents are 8 yesrs apart, hence why some of us have no knowledge of Stafford!
It could be pure coincidence that the NYMR is mentioned in both. Where a human is involved accidents will happen as shown by the highly qualified LNER driver who managed to drive an Azuma into a stationary HST in recent years causing a derailment.
I am sure that NYMR management will have acted immediately to implement the required changes.

D1661 / 47077. It's been ready to move since the summer, but the hauliers cannot get approval for the move by road. Movement by rail has been investigated, and AIUI it's currently hoped that it can be moved in January.
Just to close off this little side-topic from before Christmas, D1661 / 47077 has now left Bishop's Lydeard, headed for the NYMR, on the back of an Allely's trailer.
