I will be travelling from Stanmore LU to Wembley Park LU and back on Thursday evening. Not impressed at Boris's off-peak cash fares (£9.60 return for a zone 4+5 journey), I intend to try paying for the journey by contactless card. I have never used an Oyster Card and would be grateful if somebody could help with some answers to the questions:
Assuming my Bank Card, which shows the contactless symbol, works at the gates, do I just touch in at Stanmore and out at Wembley on the yellow Oyster validators?
Then vice-versa on the way home?
Do I need to register my card?
Will my next bank statement be the first evidence of a (hopefully correct) charge?
Some guidance would be very helpful. TIA.

    Yes.

    Yes.

No. But doing so will let you view your journey history online.

If you have online/telephone banking access, you should be able to see it the following working day, as the total cost for the day is calculated and charged in one go, unlike Oyster where it charges you as you go along.
