Hello all,

This is a bit of a specific query ut hopefully has an easy answer - hope you can help!
Next Sunday (11th) I'm hoping to do the ale trail from Manchester to Huddersfield - stopping at stations inbetween. My cousin, whom I'm meeting for this jaunt - lives in Huddersfield. He's willing to join me in Manchester and travel back to Huddersfield.

Which ticket do I need? Can I use a return to Hudd and get off (on what will be the way there for me), or will I need single tickets between each station?

Thanks

Jamo

Are you just going one way or travelling back to Manchester? If so, are you coming back on the same day?

Manchester Stns - Huddersfield
Off Peak Day Rtn £11.60 (Rte: Any Permitted)

Valid for any number of break of journeys.

Sorry if this is a little off-topic but unfortunately a few people do behave badly on the ale trail, hopefully there won't be any of these individuals around when you are making your journey. However a visit to Stalybridge station on a Friday night a few weeks ago I was absolutely shocked by the behaviour of a significant number of people on the platform (including leaning over the platform edge into the path of oncoming trains, smoking on the platform and even in train doorways, swearing, general drunken behaviour. The platform appeared to have effectively become a beer garden for drunken louts). I'm sure it'll be a much better atmosphere on a Sunday afternoon though!

Yorkie is absolutely spot on to warn of the behaviour above (I have witnessed it myself!) however, fortunately I can confirm that in my experience, it is a lot less rowdy and more relaxed on a Sunday (not to mention easier to get served :))

Well that's good news! Needless to say, I (and my cousin) will be nothing other than entirely decent and decorous gentlemen...!

Thanks for your help.

Can i recommend you try the Sportsman in Huddersfield. Its just a 5 min walk from the station, won multiple CAMRA awards too.

I did notice last time I was at Huddersfield that the platform entrances to both pubs had been locked. Presumably that was because there were ticket inspections in place - I don't know if it's normal practice now. If so, you'll need to leave the station to get into the station pubs :|

Might have been a football match on - they normally have to close the platform doors when Huddersfield Town are playing at home.

My local station is Horsforth, and i'm thinking of doing the ale trail tomorrow (Sunday) from Stalybridge back to Leeds. If the Horsforth ticket office is shut I'll have to get my ticket on the train, is it best to get a return to Stalybridge or a day Rover? (I'm not sure if these go as far as Stalybridge - but doubt it).
