All Northern for a tenner trying to cover most miles starting from Leeds/Manchester

Suggestions wanted for a maximum mileage trip starting after 0845 not necessarily covering a lot of the network but finishing by 2000 at the same station?
Reasonable connections between trains required say 10min minumum, SWMBO will be with me!

Important question where are you starting? Do you want maximum track/destination coverage or a day out to a place?

Start either Manchester or Leeds, most miles travelled in the time ( it could be Piccadilly to Victoria all day!)

You could do Piccadilly-Hale and then switch platforms at Hale and go back to Piccadilly 5 minutes later that would allow you to do 37 miles in 1 hour 10. With that option there's a few stations close together so if the Hale bound train is running a bit late you can switch at Altrincham or Navigation Rd instead or if you discover the Manchester bound train is late before you get to Hale you could stay on the train to Ashley or beyond.

Well eventually went to Scarborough with an average below 30mph. Just wondered if any routes stood out as offering more mph?
