Saw this project asking for help on twitter.

    http://www.allthestations.co.uk/
They are asking for help on the above Kickstarter page.

Its being done by Geoff Marshall aka Geoff Tech , who occasionally posts here, and if you know his Youtube Channel, you will know he loves trains !.

I have pledged £10 to hopefully own my favourite station of Southport (SOP).

I hope this interest to the community.

I agree, this is a very worthwhile project and I wish Geoff and his team every success.

Just pledged £20 and will hopefully be able to adopt Pye Corner and Rogerstone. Pye Corner is my nearest and the pair are unusual in that although they are within the City of Newport they have no trains to Newport station itself (except sometimes during engineering diversions).

I've always found Geoff to be an interesting individual... :D

Would I be able to find out before I pay if Huntingdon is still available for adoption?

Scratch that, it looks like station adoptions haven't begun yet. Now to decide whether to adopt just one or two...

I'm in no way affiliated with this project on Kickstarter but I have backed it.

Geoff Marshall and Vicki Pipe make Youtube videos about public transport mainly in London. They've set up a project to go and visit every National Rail station in the country and make a video record of their journeys. The videos and photographs will also act as a State of the Railways in 2017.

Currently they have got to to £20,000 out of the £28,000 target so the fund raising part is going well. There's an adopt a station reward for anyone who wants to offer £10 to the project.

Please do look at the project with the fundraising video and if it's your sort of thing throw a couple of notes their way.

Another backer here and hope to give Geoff and Vicki a wave when they're on the Pompey Direct.

I'll stick with my private collection of photo's of every BR station open at the time of Privatisation in 1994. Every station actually visited and set foot on, with a freight or pax service passing through, and self funded. Bit more historical me thinks.

again - what is the point? It is nice to have a complete record of each station but I don't understand the purpose. Why os 2017 such a watershed? Is it to help people navigate? is it some kind of art installation? etc

I am heading towards out but remain to be convinced!

I watched the introduction video and the title of this thread is slightly misleading. They plan to travel through each station on a stopping service but won't be getting off the train at every station.

I'm a huge fan of Geoff Marshall's videos, but like you I ask "what's the point"? Seems to me he and the lady are getting the public to fund a rather long holiday spent doing their hobby.

I'd like to visit allthenudebeaches in Europe. Can I have thirty grand, please?

This "project" would have been far more worthwhile in the 20's and 30's when film was rare, and film of rail stations even rarer. But now everyone seems to have a phone capable of making a video and putting it on youtube...here's the ruse, get the public to send in aviseo of their own station and send it to Geoff and save thirty grand.

Also, is he paying tax on this income? If not, why not??

The point? Well, they are making a film which they hope people will enjoy. Its as simple as that is it not? Nobody is forcing you to chip in, you'll still be able to watch the videos for free if you want, you might even enjoy it.

I don't know the Geoff Marshall from Adam but I can't see anything wrong whatsoever with crowdfunded media, some genuinely great stuff gets funded by kickstarter and patreon and other forms of donation. Something like this does have high overheads, without travel tickets and accommodation then I guess it simply doesn't get made and without an external editing team then the delay between shooting and broadcasting is so great it probably kills the energy of the project because a lot of the fun is probably watching while it's actually happening. So are they getting the public to pay for a junket? I don't think they are, but that doesn't mean they can't enjoy the trip does it?

I wish them a lot of luck.

That makes it rather pointless then. Can't see what they aim to achieve apart from a paid for soiree around the rail network. I had an immense amount of satisfaction when I completed my Photographic Odyssey on the 31/03/1994. It's an achievement that no-one can take away from me. No sofa surfing, more putting a two man tent up in a howling gale in some remote part of Scotland, after spending 14 hours on a motorcycle getting soaked. Petrol money, food and camera film and development all out of my hard earned. Their project seems a bit soft and anodyne to me.

Doesn't Network Rail already capture hi-res images of all stations from the various monitoring trains.

Whilst I must say I do really enjoy his videos (Both as Goeff Marshall and Londonist), I'm not sure I'm really on board with kickstarting this. Most of the money seems to be going on editing, which doesn't seem that necessary to me. How hard can that be?
I'm sure if they just took a little longer he could do it himself, given he is a video editor. Also it seems to be being sponsored the the Rail Delivery Group, so I'd imagine he's getting the rail tickets for free as well.

If that's the case then what exactly are people paying him for?!

Much rather put money into getting historical units back onto the mainline... :D

    Agreed.

I'm sure most of us would love the general public to pay for a 6 week holiday travelling over GB being on services which call at every station.

I tend to agree with this.

I'm a big fan of his work generally - the "Londonist" YouTube channel and particularly the "secrets of the ..... line" tube videos which are excellent.

This project seems a strange one. Unless there's something interesting and noteworthy about a particular station, what's the point in just travelling through it?

I would also rather give money to something more tangible which benefits the railway preservation scene. Buying tickets for railtours or making donations to preservation groups, for example.

Some people will donate to any old pointless rubbish whilst real worthy causes go unfunded.

Don't give them money then? Editing is time consuming, especially if you've got simultaneous footage from more than one camera and a separate audio track. Honestly you lot

I (and probably a few others) still uphold the view this is his hobby, probably already heavily subsidized, so why should we pay him for it?

Next thing you know there'll be a few of us crowdfunding about £2000 for an ALR <D

I have no intention of so doing but thanks for your advice.

However, I am planning a "State of Wetherspoons, 2018" tour next year. I'll video it and donate the film to Tim Martin for his archive. For a mere £10, I'll say "Cheers" to you as part of the footage. Expect to see my crowd funding page shortly.

Well, I like him, think it will be interesting and donated. I also enjoy not being a grumpy bloke moaning about how pointless everything is.

I'm going to adopt the Touker Souleyman position = an interesting idea, but it's not my field, and I'm out (plus my stash of £50 notes would only be of the Monopoly variety)

For a start I do like the content that Geoff creates! Its great.
The thing about this whole trip is on his latest video he stated, "I don't like trains, I only like railways"

    ... Uhm....
Technically trains are part of railways? :P

I like Geoff Marsh as well, and would like to meet him one day, but I wonder if he's outdone himself this time..?
