Hi all. Is there anyone familiar with car parking at Alnmouth who can give me any useful Gen in the usual railforums helpful way.

I’m going to stay near Alnmouth and thinking of a few train trips. There seems to be 2 car parks, railway one and council one.

Questions that come to mind include. Are there cost differences, do they get busy, does the council one have platform / station access. Anything else worth knowing?

Thanks in advance.

Both car parks have platform access.

Council car park (northbound) is max stay of 72 hours, £1.50 per 24 hours (so £3 for 48, £4.50 for 72). Pay and display machine.

Northern car park (southbound) appears to have no max stay, and was £1.50 per day around a year ago. Pay by RingGo.

Northern’s car park used to be the busiest, but may be different now that parking charges apply.

You can park on Curly Lane for nothing, but be mindful of the need for Arriva’s access to and from the station bus stops.

By way of an update this info was v helpful and I used it for trips to Ashington and Chathill.

I used the council car park but I think the railway car park on eastern side is also £1.50.

When using the ticket machine for a railway ticket before the ticket office opened I noted I was offered the ability to add parking to my ticket purchase (so I assume an alternative to ring). I also wondered if that means you can pay for parking at the ticket office. I’m sure this would only apply to the railway owned car park.

The council car park has a simple to use pay and display ticket vending machine that takes payment cards and possibly also coins though I didn’t try coins so not totally sure about that.

Yes, the council ticket machines take cash as well as cards

Does anyone know why orange plastic safety barriers are in place on the council side of the car park? They have been there for a year and no works have taken place.

To add on to this, the max you can buy on the railway side is 7 days - you can extended beyond that by renewing it on the app at 0001 on the next day, but for a single transaction it is 7 days max.
